Interesting factoids from the Advocate article this morning: Spurrier: That fake field goal, we worked on it in practice every day last year. So we've seen it. We hadn't worked on it this year. It was Peveto who suggested "Red Alert Roxie" to Miles. LSU has worked on it regularly. Miles gave the green light. (Miles used the same play with success in the Ok.St. 38-34 win over Kansas State in 2003) Flynn called the play when the defense lineup was favorable. Hester who was supposed to be the lead blocker, said "I couldn't find anybody to block. I had to go find anybody to block, so the coaches wouldn't mess with me when we looked at it on film." The Gamecocks bite it bad; there were no Gamecocks player within 5 yds of the kicker. Colt David, a former soccer star, said " I didn't know what to do when I got to the end zone because I'd never been there before. I was a pretty good soccer player, but nothing compares to that feeling.......":thumb: Kudos to Miles and his SURROUNDING coaching staff, as well as the players who executed the play to perfection.
He sure zipped through the field to the end zone like Trinidy. Hope the stadium staff fixes up the torn up field in time for the Floida game, or would/could they?
It was a monsoon at halftime. It drained pretty well, but got chewed up pretty good. We had a couple of bad weather games last year and it held up pretty good. I think the field will be fine.
This is what impresses me about our coaches and players. Not only do they teach the plays but the players are ready and able to execute them consistantly. I'm looking to see if Spurrier uses this play later this year. We also have to be prepared for Florida or someone else to use it against us!
Spurrier smiling and shaking his head after the fake FG was priceless. For the first time ever we actually beat him at his own game. Priceless.:thumb: NOTE: I would love to see Bob Stoops play Steve Spurrier in a bowl game this year.
Another thought on this fake FG. I was watching the game on TV. The 3rd down play was a run to the left, very boring and predictable. The announcers as well as myself and was thinking what a bad play call. Then once the fake scored the TD, the 3rd down play looked brilliant. It looked like LSU was being conservative to not turn the ball over and at least get a field goal. What a great set up! :thumb:
Miles must have been paying attention to LSU for a long time. Not being a smart ass, but this is the same fake Auburn used against LSU in 99 with Duval. http://www.al.com/religion/mobilere...mtlogs/tigerscorner/archives/print010976.html In 1999, his Auburn place kicker, Damon Duval, scored a touchdown on a fake field goal against LSU. Upon receiving the snap, the holder, Jacob Allen, flipped the ball over his head to Duval, who raced untouched into the end zone.
