In rememberence of Fallen Tigers and the other thread that was started. Kinda Like JFK being assasinated changed American History. What single event changed LSU football over the past 25 years ago? The football coach that was hired and tragically died before he could have any impact on LSU Football. I believe his name was Bo Rein. Some of you who know more about him, his background and how LSU football would've been different with him as coach. Help me out.............................
Bo Rien was from hired from North Carolina...I think...and was on his way back there in a privite plane when the plane lost cabin pressure and everyone inside blacked out. Two Air Force jets followed it until it ran out of fuel and crashed into the Atlantic. From what I remember he a was a good coach but he never had the chance to show it at LSU since he was killed right after he was hired.
wow, thats an amazingly sad story....... Reminds me of that golfer in the lear jet a few years back.... Same thing happened to him.
Here is a piece on Bo Rein and Payne Stewart. http://www.nwaonline.net/pdfarchive/1999/October/26/B2.pdf Sad story. Who knows if he would have been able to put LSU on the map.
I think he was on his way from Shreveport to BR, but lost pressure similar to Payne Stewart and the plane crashed somewhere in the Atlantic near North Carolina. he was from NC State. He was supposed to be good. NC state and Ohio State, where he played, have named awards after him.
The Payne Stewart thing was terrible. I watched a special on the Discovery Channel where they reconstructed the accident and everything that happened, and in real life when the incident was happening they were able to estimate within 5 miles where his plane would crash when it ran out of fuel, and that is why they did not shoot it down. They figured it would crash in an empty field, and it did. I find that totally amazing on the FAA's part.
