Are you seriously trying to suggest that Bush did just fine? Talk about drinking the Kool-aid! The failure of the Iraq war, the collapse of the economy, the return of Russia, the Katrina blunders, etc. etc. were all just media inventions? A "spoof"? I think the citizens of this country are not as dumb as you imagine. Thing's moving a little fast for you, Old Paint?
I'd say I have to agree with SF if we are judging it based on Obama's presidency...you know, since he's not actually in office yet. Obama, like Bush and everyone else, has the potential to both succeed and to fail. The measure of Bush's failure (success) depends largely on Obama's since that seems to be the only factor on everyone's mind. I didn't vote for Obama, as you may have gathered from several of my angry posts during a terrible day at work yesterday, but I have accepted the fact that he is in and I have to give the guy a chance. It has been mentioned several times that this country has been through a lot in the last 8 years, what's 4 more? If Obama turns out to be the best president in the history of the universe, then I will apologize for my ignorance. HOWEVER, if he turns out to be the worst president ever, don't expect me not to say I told you so.
Okie, great post. My sentiments exactly. I am a moderate Republican. I think the ultra conservative Republicans need to get a hold of themselves. If the Dems overreach, the voters will punish them in the midterm elections in 2010. Checks and Balances in full bloom (see 1994 and the Gingrich revolution). The country is made up of roughly 20 % liberals, 20 % conservatives and % 60 percent moderates. It's a great mix and one that assures we will never stray far from the middle.
I agree with much of what you say here, but Bush was not the sole reason the Republicans lost, although he was clearly a factor in the defeat. The primary reason for the loss was the economy. Despite Bush's unpopularity, McCain was ahead in the polls until Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac collapsed. From that point on, McCain lost ground and was never able to recover. As the economy worstened, so did McCain's chances of a victory.
I hope Conservatives never come to hate Obama as much as liberals (you too, Red) hate Bush. I can't see that happening, though. No matter what I would think of the accomplishments (or lack of) under President Obama, I would never, EVER stoop to the level of vile, vicious, personal attacks leveled at Bush by you, other liberals and the mainstream media. You ought to be ashamed, but I know that's not likely.
Well, we'll see about that. Look, calling an elected official incompetent and a failure are not "vile, vicious personal attacks". I have never called Bush "evil" or even insincere--certainly none of the invective you've hurled at Hillary or Barney Frank. His high public office does not make the President immune from public criticism.
You have a selective memory. Cankles and Corksucking exempt Hill and Barney boy from the general rule. Actually, I like Hillary.
We have already seen an intense hatred of Barrack Obama from the right. The frequent use of his middle name is a lame, insulting and petty attempt to associate him with an enemy of America. We also saw similar hatred towards Clinton from the right. He was called every name in the book and pretty much accused of murder. The radical right hated him so much that they spent millions of our tax dollars to find out he got a blow job from a fat chick. I am afraid that partisans being mean and saying disrespectful things about people on the other team is a way of life. If a person isdelusional enough to think Republicans are above this they have blinders on.
