Here's how I responded to the poster on the La Tech board who said that I sometimes don't smell so good: Ever since 1812, people who hate Louisiana and Louisianans have resorted to ad hominem attacks to try to inflict harm. It was a cowardly and small-minded thing to do in 1812 and it is the same today. I am reminded of that gloomy day in January, 1815, near Chalmette. The British smelled of perfume. Their uniforms were beautiful, bright crimson and made of the finest wool fabric. The polished brass looked like gold. My men and I didn't smell of perfume, and our clothes were not nearly so fine. If being the best cultured and attired was what guaranteed victory, we would have lost the fight in five minutes. But culture, clothes, perfume and shiny buttons meant nothing on that day. Victory went not to the perfumed gentlemen, but to the rustic, French-speaking roughnecks who HAD MORE FIGHT IN THEM than did our opponents. I always laugh when people call us Cajuns names and tell us that we stink. It just proves how much smaller-minded such people are than we Cajuns. We have big hearts, lots of courage, and know how to love and how to fight. Those who hate us only make us stronger. So, thank you for your story about how you think I smell bad. Sometimes, after a hard day at work, I know that I smell bad. But you know, I take a bath and then I smell good. I feel sorry for you, my friend, the stink that resides in your Black Soul will stink for all eternity. And no amount of bathing will ever wash away the stink that resides in your Black Soul. GEAUX TIGERS! :geaux: :lsug:
Oh, I dunno, I'm a bit of a history nut myself. I know a thing or two about the campaign for New Orleans, which began in earnest in December 1814, and finished about two weeks after the main battle of January 8, 1815. Want to compare notes, Sabanfan? Tell me what you think about the action of Plauche's Battalion during the night battle. I'm particularly interested to read your views on whether he should have pressed the attack against the 95th's left, or swung back and hit the Highlanders forming to the rear. What do you think?
it's a parody you idiot, and why would you want to have a substantive discussion about hitting someone in the rear on a sports message board..... sounds like mental penis envy to me...
He's not Good Will Hunting... He's the guy in the bar that Will Hunting puts down after showing him up by telling him he's just reciting some words straight out of the textbook... It's always nice to flex your intellectual muscles...but SabanFan never actually said he was a history nut...He did say that Jean's post went over their heads... Perhaps he assumed too much...but then again, perhaps you assumed that you'd make someone else feel small by pulling down your pants and thrusting your anus in the air for all of us to see tonight by displaying you have knowledge of an obscure aspect of some battle that occurred in relation to a war that was already concluded by the time the British blood was shed... It would figure that you'd spout off about knowledge of a military battle that didn't figure into the outcome of the war... Very nice...
Not an irrelevant battle. TigerEducated: Thanks for joining in the fight here. I am very much in agreement with you, except on a point of history. I would like to say that I have it on good authority that if the British had successfully captured New Orleans in early 1815 after winning the battle, they would have retained the city as a British possession. The British would not have voluntarily relinquished the most prosperous port city in the New World, had they captured it. And let me assure you that neither Jean Lafitte, nor the US Government possessed the military power to re-take New Orleans from the British in 1815, had the British captured it. My post above that started the thread is really not about history, but about character. That said, my point is this: I think it amusing that the Bauburnites started what they think is a hilarious put-down of Cajuns. They say we smell bad. It's the same thing that bigoted white people used to say about people of color. I think it speaks VOLUMES about the character of people who point at Cajuns and make fun of the way they smell. I do hope that this interesting remnant of bigoted prejudice is not lost on potential recruits who are trying to decide whether to attend LSU or Ballbarn or La. Tech, for that matter. To talk smack is one thing. To make bigoted comments about an ethnic group is not talking smack: it is small-minded and hateful. That's why nobody is happier than I that Allbarn is 5-3 and just got a whuppin hung on them by LSU. If the La Tech fans want to adopt Bauburn's corndog joke, fine. This is a free country, and they are allowed to be as small-minded and ignorant as Bauburnites. :geaux: :lsug:
History is just a hobby for me. But, it is too easy to make broad statements that imply Tech folks are too dumb to follow a simple post. Like "it went over their heads" type comments. How do you, any of you, know what may or may not go over anyone's head? Newsflash! I have attended LSU-BR. Have 9 hours, in fact, with a 4.0. Does that, by itself, mean anything? Nope! But, as you would probably suspect, I know a bunch of people who went to LSU. They are no smarter, more capable, than any of the rest of us. LSU is the "flagship" university in name only. A title awarded, not earned. Yes, this is a sports' forum, and a good one too. Let's focus on football. Later, during the off-season, I'll be happy to discuss any aspect of history with anyone. I am particularly knowledgable about the Civil War, er, the War for Southern Independence. See ya'll in Tiger Stadium.
