Hey don't lump me in with the idealists. I see no difference in Islam than Nazism. I'm all for decisive military force against our enemies, and recognize that Fundamentalist Islam is the most dangerous set of ideas in the modern world. I also know that there are good Muslims along with the bad, and to arbitrarily declare that you would kill them all is ignorant. If you were born in a Muslim country or to a Muslim family, guess what? You'd be a Muslim as well. I bet you don't even personally know any Muslims. I don't pay lip service to a God who preaches peace, forgiveness, and love to all men, but then call for the extermination of an entire class of people. That would make me a hypocrite. And who are my "scumbag friends" you are referring to? Care to clarify? Here I'll change my tag line just for you, since my Post-Katrina one is a little stale.
No, you wouldn't care to be around me for very long. I don't associate with people like you. What the hell are you so angry about, anyway? Is it those damn Hippies and Liberals? Judging by my avatar? A picture on Bourbon at a bachelor party and the fact that I have a sense of humor means I'm not hard-working, self-respecting? Please. Between me and my wife we sit on the Board of Directors of three different charities, and donate about 5-10 hours a week of our time and thousands of dollars between them. We held an event last night here in Dallas that brought in close to 100k for the Child Abuse Prevention Center. Oh, let's not mention the other guy in my avatar, a dentist who works with a group that provides free Dental services to poor, rural-area people. Perhaps you've used his services? But yeah, because its a silly picture makes us scum. What have you done for your community? My professional work as a Director at one of the top Hospitals in the world facilitates the process of saving peoples lives. What do you do for a living? I know you were just trying to be petty, but you really don't know **** about me. Grow up.
In all fairness the topic is "The Christian Vote: Giulani". The context of my post was pointing out the fact that Salty chose to defer to the word of God concerning marriage, while at the same time calling for the genocide of an entire religious group. Selective outrage at its finest. A valid point to the discussion, in my opinion, because we are trying to discern the mentality of the Christian Right concerning things like a politicians marriage life. For the record, I don't have any problems with anyones religion, unless it affects my personal life against my will. People should be free to worship or not-worship as they please.
THAT'S WHY I SAID IN THE EYES OF THE LAW (see below for reference), which is what we're talking about. In the context of government, I don't particulary give a rat's ass about God's preferences. Now if I had elected God to the Senate or maybe the President, His opinion would be very important. God also wants people to go to church, and tithe, and commit one's life to Him. No law requires that (well, no US law...I'm sure some Muslim countries have that sort of God-focused legislation -- that is, until you wipe them out. :hihi: )
i try to tell em nolimit, but the christians, they always see separation of church and state as somehow a persecution. marriage is two things. a sacred religious bond or whatever, as well as a contract, they want to control both.
Combining the two is all well and good for Christians as long as it's a Christian guvment. I imagine folks would sing a different tune if the tide were to shift. Go figure.
I am curious as to why the title singularly points to Christians? Other religions also set guidelines on marriage. The point of an election is to vote for someone who holds as many of the same principles and views points as you can, so they can represent you. This chastisement seems to advocate disenfranchising those who hold Christian ideals. The old cliché, It is freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.
This reminds me of what Glen Beck said on his show on HNN the other night. They are trying to pass some Muslim law in Minnesota that isn't favorabe to women, nobody seems to care about this but anything christian the chrisitan nazis would oppose.
Seeing how the Country was founded by predominantly Christian sects, no one should be surprised that the greatest religious influence is Christian. There never has been a perfect balance, and never will. The freedoms within this country are so great that sometimes hand wringing commences without a reflective look at the history which this Union sought to disassociate itself.
