I think the great players just want to be coached up. I don’t think they care if the coach is white, black or purple, they just want a coach who is going to put them in position to be the best version of themselves. That and obviously be a trustworthy individual with integrity. I would hope a recruit doesn’t pick a school based on the coaches skin color just like I would hope a coach doesn’t recruit an athlete based on the kids skin color. Lastly I would hope that a program doesn’t pick a coach based on his or her skin color one way or the other. Pick the best coach with the best qualifications. I would also hope that relating to your players goes so much further beyond what you and/or they look like.
Substitute experience for qualifications and you got a winner. Well said otherwise. But there is a difference.
I disagree. Qualified does not equal better. If a job is open for someone that is a programmer - for instance - the qualification is that you know whatever programming language is required to do the job. There are certainly programmers that write better code than others, but that does not mean that if 2 applicants both know C++ that one of them is more 'qualified' than the other, it means one is better at his craft. They are both qualified to be considered. It is up to the hiring manager to determine which candidate will be the better fit.
By your definition I am qualified to coach a football team. Let's just say for the sake of argument I'm black and its me and Saban up for the job. I take the job for 2 mil Saban for 5. Who you gonna hire? I wasn't trying to start a tussle but this is the dumbest take I've ever seen. Its Rexesque to an extent. Especially since I have already said I don't care if we hire a black coach, as long as he is a great coach. Not sure if you've looked around but those are in short supply
