released today. really good reviews so far. 14 albums on 16 discs entire UK catalogue complete with original (and some new) album art and liner notes. available in either mono or stereo. individual albums also available if you don't want entire box set. if anybody can get their hands on this (hatcher) and can give a review on this set, I'm all ears. Let us know how much better is the sound quality over the previous CDs available. Should I buy entire set, or only the albums I don't currently own? Hoping to buy my own copy before end of the year
I have all the albums and CDs. Wife has informed me that the remastered set is my Christmas present. She always struggles to find something I like thus I've agreed to wait until then. The entire set sell for circa $180.00.
I'm interested in hearing several things. 1. Is it a better digital mix than before, 2. did they make subjective changes to George Martins original mix as in the Cirque de Soliel production 3. Is it optimized for downsampled MP3 ipods/earbuds rather than loss-less compression high-end digital sound systems. I'm going to get it today, anyway, of course. I've got over 500 Beatles 45's, LP's and CD's already.
went to Best Buy today, they had Beatles remastered material all over the store. Pretty nice looking packaging as well.
I am a fan of beatles music, but there are 2 significant problems with these releases. 1. The Remastered mono version (which every old enough relative of mine sez was better than the stereo version) which i have always wanted to hear, is only in a limited run of 10,000. This makes no sense at all. 2. No digital release. Look, I get it that there are alot of fans who will buy any beatles release because it's the beatles, but in this day and age when the #1 music retailer worldwide only sells music online (iTunes) it is a horrendously stupid business decision to not release them that way. But I am a beatles fan, and if they dont put it out digitally before x-mas i'm gonna buy it like the sucker i am. and probably another copy for my folks.
They are addressing a market. Collectors will want the hard media and all the packaging. I imagine that the 10,000 mono box sets will not be the last 10,000 sold. If they underestimated sales potential, they will fix it. All 10,000 were sold out in pre-orders and it would not surprise me if the next batch were already in production. Be aware that "The Other Apple" has a major iPod event coming up this week. . .
Thats great, but why should i have to wait? Like you said, the collectors will buy it anyway. I dont understand why the digital version isn't day-and-date with the hard copy the "other" event was this morning, and despite yoko saying they would have beatles in itunes, there was no announcement and EMI (the label incharge) has said no, and not in the wishy-washy way, but the rumor crushing way. From yesterday: And dont think they aren't going to lose sales by waiting. I am a beatles fan who would have bought it already this morning if it was available digitally. I'm sure it will be online in pristene digital condition by the time i get home in less scrupulous locations. I may have the self control to not download it, but the less casual fan will not hesitate.
BOO....BOO....BOO. Let me throw a tomato too! The last thing I want to hear is a remastered Beatles release that has been optimized for creating MP3's. There are a lot of good audio programs that can take the lossless wavs and make decent MP3's without tinkering with the bitrate. I want to hear ALL the nuances in uncompressed glory!
Yeah including all the cool sound you can pick up ( like crickets chirping ) in the medley on Abbey Road beginning with "You Never Give Me Your Money", a song many believe is based on problems the Beatles were having with Apple. I love Beatles' music, could listen to it 24-7 and never be bored with it.
