FUNNY, THERE WAS ONLY ONE GUY HERE IN AUGUST SAYING THIS WAS THE YEAR. As I've stated all along, LSU will be favored to win every game. I hope the media keeps talking smack for another 2 weeks ... until we meet Auburn. This week LSU barely covers the 9.5 point spread with a 27-17 victory and a late TD to salt it away. Oh, and I'll be 6-0 on the year picking LSU versus the spread. Other key games I like: Texas with 6 points ... would like to see OK fall, but OK wins by 3 Miami gets beaten very badly (21+) in Tallahassee by FSU Wisconsin nips OSU in a thriller VT walks over Syracuse by 30 Auburn beats Arkansas by 10 LSU stays undefeated along with #1 OKLAHOMA, #2 FSU, #3 VT
I don't think it was a matter of people not believing "this was the year." I think people are naturally conservative so that they don't jinx the team or anything. It's near impossible to call a team in the SEC a preseason national title contender because of the brutal schedule. But the road to New Orleans continues Saturday night...
I dont mean to sound skeptical but I still dont necessarily think this is 'THE YEAR' (although I hope it is.) We have a very deep and talented team but we have still only had one tough game and we havent even gotten very far into the SEC yet. At this point we just need to focus on Florida in my opinion. We were 6-1 and jazzed last year and then the injuries and the SEC happened.
I know everyone expected our talent to be better (year older) next season but I remember quite a few people saying this year could be "the year" after that Phil Steele article about how his computer had LSU winning the national championship because of our schedule. Of course, the fact that his computer had Ohio St. winning it last year gave it a little more credence.
I definitely wouldn't get ahead of ourselves. It's a long tough season. I personally think we are gonna play down and possibly lose to a team we shouldn't. I myself like the attitude of these team. They seem to take it one game at a time , and everyone seriously.
But that's why we were a contender in August ... a GREAT schedule and great returning talent with loads of depth and a solid OL ranked in the Top 5. As for the voodoo and the jinxing, LOL, you're probably right. We are a superstitious lot.
I have always believed every year has been the year. I also believe the Saints will win the Super Bowl every year.
Anybody that's been a life long tiger fan, pasted down from their parents, knows to expect a letdown at some point. I'm very optimistic though!
