Actually you won't @GiantDuckFan, but you will know people are talking to him. It always looks like you are just posting something and not quoting anyone. I always know who you are talking to but there is no quote shown when you quote him on my screen.
As I remember you've dated and/or married minorities. Would you like your loved one or her children picked up for driving while dark skinned, put in jail with no bail or charges and tortured? Well that's what Arpaio did. Think about it.
Arpaio is probably no worse than former Iberville Parish Sheriff Jessel Ourso but that was the days before social media or even the internet.
I think it's important to note that Atencio was a Gulf War vet who had been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. He was prone to rages and was not a stranger to MC. I think the case highlights a situation that goes on just about everywhere, not just Arizona. This dude came in to contact with a nurse who was aware of his mental problems but allowed him to continue on with the regular booking/detention process. He should have been on a mandatory hold in a psych ward somewhere. Prison was the straight up wrong place but public wasn't same for him or others coming across him either. Too much for sure. Some are also those looking for a pay day and government officials are likely to approve some amounts whether they are viable cases or not to simply avoid the lengthy trials. In fact, an amount was approved for settlement in Atencio's case but the family rejected it and I think 5 years later it's still in the courts. You can check me on that but I don't think it's been settled. Beating of inmates, witness tampering, and other issues have been a huge problem in Orange County. Read the case of Kelly Thomas, a homeless man who was beaten to death by sheriffs, all but one of whom were subsequently exonerated. Thomas' mom settled for a measly $1M.
If you are a legal citizen, a licensed driver with all the required permits and insurance, you may get pulled over but you aren't getting arrested or jailed. Arpaio isn't getting the condemnation on a larger scale because it's the state of Arizona's job to deal with it. Hillary was a federal employee. If an inmate had been successful suing Arpaio for violating his civil rights, then it's a bigger deal. But it's silly to compare a sheriff with a Secretary of State who operates on a global level.
