It's a stupid reason, and the 'Horns have the same sorry excuse. Those boys ought to get a freakin' clue; we are already hitting east Texas pretty hard on the recruiting front and even made it out to west Texas to get Shawn Jordan (he's from El Paso). If we played Texas and Texas A&M, it wouldn't hurt their recruiting if we beat them occassionally, any more than it would hurt our recruiting in Louisiana if we lost. Besides, last I checked, you could only hand out 85 scholarships, and there is more than enough blue-chip talent in Texas to go around. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Their reason is flawed. Notre Dame and Michigan play each other and they recruit from the same region. All of the Florida school play each other and they are all different conferences.
Maybe we could schedule TCU---I know they are not a major team but they are in the Top 25; It would get us some more exposure in the DFW area.
Easy on your rampage FightinTIGER... I hear both ends of the story. Remember, there are always TWO sides. Enough said...Geaux Tigers and beat W. Illinois. I will be there!
hell, im all for the game. bring it on. i agree it is a stupid reason. with what yall gain in TX we gain in LA.
exactly what I think. Also it could be a win/win situation for both schools. A kid may see this rivalry and really want to be a part of it. So the kid ends up at either LSU or aTm instead of Texas, Florida, Miami, etc.......
In one of his recent columns, A&M AD Bill Byrne addressed the issue of renewing the A&M/LSU game. He claimed that the athletic departments at both schools are not interested in this game. I'll take his word on it that it is a sentiment shared by both schools, and not A&M backing down on the game. It's ashamed though. It would be a great series again.
Well if you read the article by your AD, he later posted a edit to the original article a few days after it was originally posted and it said LSU contacted A&M over the summer about starting a series again. A&M said no but we are interested. Just thought you wanted to know the real truth.
quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Valid point, but I think Byrne's point is that LSU is a local school that already draws recruits from Texas, and he doesn't want to give them any more exposure. It's not a fair trade as far as the Ags geting to play in Louisiana, because the talent level is significantly lower. I agree with playing teams like FSU and Miami, maybe even some California teams. There's a lot of talent in those states. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That is total bullshit. There are more football players from Louisiana in the NFL than any other state on a per capita basis. We might not have the sheer numbers of great players as a much bigger state like Texas, Florida or California but the percentage of Louisiana players who end up at the big time level is higher than any other state based upon the percentage of population. Right now with Nick Saban as the coach and the way he has elevated LSU football players from all over the country will at least consider LSU as one of their choices. The same thing is true for Texas and Texas A&M during years when they are on a winning streak. LSU already gets prime time recruits from Texas, Florida, California and everywhere else there is a great player who is interested in coming to Tigertown. Barrington Edwards is from Maryland. Has LSU ever had a player from Maryland before Saban got here? Sure, it was more advantageous for A&M to come to Baton Rouge when LSU had coaches like Curley "Nyuk, Nyuk, Nyuk" Hallman. If A&M, Texas or anybody else has a quality nationally prominant football program they will attract recruits from wherever they live the same as Miami, Florida State, Michigan, Notre Dame and lately LSU do. Whether we play a team from Texas or not right now we have guys from Texas like Addai, Ben Wilkerson and Matt Flynn on our roster. Would some of the Texas players on the LSU roster be at A&M or in Austin now if one of those team had beaten LSU? Maybe so, maybe not. We will never know. Eat your hearts out Hornfans and Aggiefans.
For reasons that are pretty obvious I would love for yall to play aTm! I would love to see yall beat the britches off of em too!
