I am a conservative who believes in small government, less regulation. I also am against abortion for 2 reasons. One is that I am pro life and the other is that it is based on bad law. The abortion issue should be left up to the states not the feds. I also don't like liberal judges telling us how we should live our lives. I also don't like liberals doing the same thing the far right is accused of,telling you how to live your life such as the excuse of man made global warming such as you can't barbecue on certain days of the week. I also don't like laws that take away our freedoms such as the right to keep and bear arms, within reason. I think you get the picture. In 1977 I was for Carter even though I was too young to vote. The first time I voted was for Reagan in 84, that was the proudest day of my life as far as politics are concerned. I voted for Bush in 88 and then held my nose as I pulled the lever for Bush in 92. I was going to vote for Perot here but my cousin talked me out of it saying that it would be a wasted vote. I have never voted democrat and probably never will. Let me just say that party trumps person meaning if I vote for a moderate democrat then I will empower all of the democrat coalition including the far left forces and their agendas. I have considered voting for someone other than a republican twice however. Perot once again and Bob Barr this year. There are three reasons I have changed midstream and most likely vote for McCain. One is his vp pick in Sarah Palin, a breath of fresh air. The other is my values and to keep Obama out of the white house. In closing let me say that I would like to see a third party become part of the system. Both the dems and repubs can easily avoid certain issues while that third party usually wants to talk about the issue.
I consider myself a conservative. I prefer small government and fiscal responsibility. I think the military and the space program are both important (although the space program could be more efficient). I am pro-life. I think abortion is shirking responsibility. Perhaps there are some special cases (rape, etc.), but I'm not sure how I feel about that. I've only voted for President twice, so I've felt that I've voted for the lesser of two evils both times (Bush twice). I'm ready for someone new. That being said, I do not trust Obama. To me, the theatrics are very unsettling. McCain and Palin seem much more down to earth. I also think journalism is generally dead, especially among the mainstream media. I understand that people have natural biases, but the deliberate liberal slant that has developed among the main networks is disappointing. Instead, I like to listen to Walton & Johnson in the morning. I don't always agree with what they say, but they usually try to look at both sides of an issue and are also entertaining. I'd like to have more choices in a Presidential campaign. Yes, I know there are other candidates, but voting for someone not in the two major parties seems like a wasted vote.
I consider myself a left leaning moderate. I debate from my heart on issues I feel strongly about. I dont like mixing religion with politics, because thats telling someone how they should live their lives and they should be like you. Thats not equal rights to me. You can legislate from the pulpit , which seems to be what alot of the right tries to do. I believe in Free Will, I believe in Law and Order. I dont believe in extensive and sustained welfare. I believe everyone may need some help at some point in their life, but being dependent on it is lazy and irresponsible. I believe in fiscal intelligence and responsibility. You dont cut taxes and spend more, but you dont raise taxes to spend more either, there has to be a middle ground.I believe health care should be a civil right for all people in the riches country, but there should be a limit on who is eligible. Im actually a very religious person, but I dont want my believes forced on somone else. I believe in states right with federal oversite, because exclusive states rights breeds corruption and discrimination. That is all.
Only if you feel strongly one way or the other. Otherwise, it sends a message that x many people are sick of this BS and support party 3 and want the major two parties to move more in the direction of party 3. I'm a registered Republican, changed from independent. I like a lot of what Ron Paul was speaking to. I like the idea of small government and self reliance. I believe we should wisely shrink the federal government. I am anti-abortion except in specific cases. I don't feel strongly that life without a doubt starts at conception, but I expect it does and believe we should err on the side of life. I don't see any reason to not hold young mothers responsible for their actions; sex should not be taken lightly. That said, I am willing to hear and work with those who are "pro-choice". We are a democracy and have to work together. I don't believe in the interventionism of Bush, McCain, and the neocons. We spend too much money over seas. Our military is over-extended. We don't hold our allies accountable enough for handling issues in their neck of the woods. In addition, we haven't taken care of Al Qaeda, which should have been our top priority until we'd seen it through. I believe in a strong national defense, bringing most, if not all, of our troops back to the states, and staunchly enforcing our borders. I don't believe in selling our military to the highest bidder, and I think we should minimize the international agreements we participate in. We should crack down on illegal immigration and those who support that, and we should make English the national language. We should limit trade with countries who don't take care of their workers or the planet. Also, welfare could probably mostly be taken care of by private entities, but I do believe some safety net should exist. Health care is ridiculous and should really be streamlined. Health care companies shouldn't be strictly serving their share holders. Crazy lawsuits should be nixed.
