    tragically, that is true.

i dunno what those chemicals are but they sound useful.

i like that they send jobs to poor chinese people who desperately need them. i also like that they offer jobs to americans. i believe they are one of the top employers in the US. i like that they offer cheap products to people who need cheap products.

today i was reading a list of the 10 greenest companies in america. wal-mart is one of them. so if you care about that, it is nice.

    America's 10 Greenest Brands? | GreenBiz.com

i think the owners are huge philanthropists.

as far as i can tell, wal-mart is great for america.

melamine is the stuff chinese dogfood makers were spiking the food with to get a higher protein level measurement. i think its a petroleum byproduct, anyway its nasty. i think it was also found in babyformula sold in china and cadbury's choclate in china.

    not my/our concern

    i think you mean "jobs".

then why cant i find any shade in their parking lots.

    walmart is great for walmart

    not my/our concern

do you care about humankind? do you care about, for example, the environment? why? because you care about humans? then why dont you care about the chinese? they are poor and need jobs. bad things happening to them now is just as relevant as bad things happening to the people of the future due to environmental problems. is it racism?

honeslty, i dont care about anyone but myself and a select few chumps and chumpettes, but if i did care about the human race in general, i would be happy for chinese workers.

"not my/our concern" does not = "i dont care". i just care more about americans. its a big enough task to try to keep america a good place. we'd all be living on ramen if you wanted to take care of them to. i do find chinese to be unsavory, unethical, cutthroat bastards though.

The FDA needs to share some of the blame for the crap food we get. Its kind of crappy that in this country, health food is very expensive, as is fresh fruits and vegetables, and fresh fish and meats. Which is probably why more middle class people are fat. What is the FDA doing? Why are they allowing food and beverage industry to get away with making our population sick, and fat, and unhealthy? Yes i know, people will say, well its a choice, you can choose to not eat as much, and that is true, but when all you can afford is crap, or if you and your spouse work, sometimes 2 jobs, and have to feed your kids, and do housework, and help them with homework, and bathe them, everything involved with being a parent, its really easy to just go get fast food.

there are many many reasons. obviously, the big one is personal responsibility. the next big one is not having SAHM. if you make youre food you will be eating much better food.

The FDA doesnt help much either. under FDR they had a regulation saying something to the effect of --"for foods that everyone knows, such as bread, milk, and cheese, when consumers buy these foods, they should get what they expect. if a food resembles a common food but is different from the standard, that food must be labeled as 'imitation.'""

that was great because thats when processed foods started, crisco and hfcs and using antibiotics and hormones in livestock.

but then under Nixon it was changed so that "imitation" foods did not have to be labeled as such if they are "nutritionally equivalent". so then the makers of processed foods were free to process the hell out of food to make it less perishable then add back "nutrients" .

SunnyD isnt "imitation orange juice". it is "orange fruit drink". And for many such products, "sugar" isnt the first or second or third ingredient listed even though it in essence is the main ingredient, because three or four different sweeteners will be used so that no one of them are the most prevalent ingredient (hfcs, evaporated cane juice, sugar, etc).

the weird thing is that its been done for so long now that it can be hard to find the traditional standard unadultered foods. like bread, cheese, chocolate, ice cream, fruit juice, yogurt, etc.
