Taco Bell certainly has its fans, but I am not one of them. I never have liked their fair. I prefer places like Pancho's and good Mexican restaurants.
You can't compare Taco Bell to a mexican restaurant... I'm a big Taco Bell fan & if I had the money I know the exact place I would open one right now. It is the best drunk, 3am food ever - and they don't even have one near LSU. It is a travesty!
Local taco stands and regional chains like Taco Johns and Pedro's beat the hell out of Taco Bell. But Taco Bell is everywhere and it is better than Macdonalds when you're on the road. There is one at every exit. The Taco Bell on Highland north of campus burned a few years ago and never reopened. There was talk of them rebuilding south of LSU, but it never happened. I still miss the old Pedro's Tacos at Highland and East Roosevelt. They made them right.
there is no question the neighborhood taquerias are superior to taco bell. but that is apples and oranges. side note: people always say that mexican food is tough on the stomach, but i dunno if i buy it. in fact, i would go so far as to say that almost all foods are relatively equal at upsetting the stomach. i know that there is zero correlation between what i eat and how my stomach reacts. my stomach doesnt care if you put burrito supremes or bran flakes in it, it just rolls along unaffected. occasional bouts of less than optimal stomach performance appear to be mostly random. the only food that has a noticeable and expected effect on me is honey smacks. my stomach not only welcomes mexican food, it insists upon it.
Oh, the pains of youth. Class of '96. We spent many a late night at the Bell on Highland. It was about 3 blocks past the firestation, north of campus on Highland, just past the Weinerschnitzle (sp?). At about 2:15am, the drive thru would back up into the turn lane on Highland. Dem was the days when you picked up a closing time chick at Sports and you had to take her to the Bell before she would go home with you. You are so correct that they should open another one. I would expect there to be one on Burbank or Nicholson before too long. The market is begging for it. College is way to far to drive between 2 and 3 am.
Also, for those who have experienced it, Taco Tico kicks Taco Bell arse all night long. For those not in the know, you can find one on Williams Blvd in Kenner and on Vets in Metairie. I try to alternate between Buds and Taco Tico when I need something fast in NO.
If they opened a Taco Bell in the Tigerland area, they would make a ridiculous amount of money. I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet. Some enterprising LSU student with rich parents should jump on that idea.
That Crunchwrap Supreme is AWESOME. With the FIRE sauce it really rocks. I still really miss dat Chili Cheese Burrito, though. I cannot forgive them for dropping it. Usta be able to find the FIRE sauce at the sto. The best taco sauce EVA. Now all they gots is the mild. :cuss:
