AM680 The Fan (ATL) just stated that Syracuse has announced a short list of candidates they intend to interview and requests to the appropriate AD's/GM have been sent for permissions. Here's their list: Norm Chow - OC at USC Dan Hawkins - HC, Boise State Tom Clements - OC, Buffalo Bills , former QB at Notre Dame Randy Edsall - HC , U Conn, former Syracuse player/alum
They can have Hawkins and Edsall. I would like to at least interview Chow, and I don't know enough about Clements.
Try this. Personal A 1974 All-American at Notre Dame, Clements started three seasons for the Fighting Irish (1972-74) and led them to a 29-5 record during his tenure, including an unbeaten National Championship season in 1973…finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy balloting as a senior in 1974…a licensed attorney, Clements worked from 1988-92 for Bell, Boyd & Lloyd, a Chicago-based law firm, and in 1996 he worked in the law department of Republic Industries, Inc., a public company controlled by Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga…pursued his law degree while playing in Canada, graduating magna cum laude from Notre Dame's School of Law in 1986…Clements and his wife Kathe have two children, Stephanie and Tom. Coaching History 2004 - Buffalo Bills (Offensive Coordinator) 2001-03 Pittsburgh Steelers (Quarterbacks) 2000 Kansas City Chiefs (Quarterbacks) 1997-99 New Orleans Saints (Quarterbacks)
well...he sure is smart, but I don't know about him being the coach of LSU. Maybe in a few years, but I think that Syracuse would be a good start for him if he wanted to pursue a head coaching position.
they said last night on Sportscenter that Chow told Ivan Maisel that he is not interested in the Syracuse position currently. that may change, but that is what Stuart Scott said last night after the Alamo Bowl.
That makes sense to me. Chow has close ties to family and the asian community on the west coast. He's also on record as stating he prefers the Pac-10 style of play with it's wide open offensive style, and he feels his strength - developing QB's - is also well-suited in the West.
