Martha may play layoff card Report: Stewart's lawyers to argue she should be spared jail time to avoid job cuts at her company. (what ashame she didn't think about those poor people's jobs before she f'd up o: ) May 10, 2004: 8:25 AM EDT NEW YORK (Reuters) - Lawyers for Martha Stewart plan to say a prison sentence for the domestic trendsetter could harm her company and lead to layoffs of some of its 500 employees, according to a published report Monday. Stewart's lawyers will cite a 1995 decision that avoided jail time for a corporate executive because he was considered a crucial figure in his company, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a person familiar with the matter. Martha Stewart was forced to resign as an officer and board member of her company after she was convicted in March of lying to investigators about a personal stock sale. Stewart, who built an empire out of her flair for cake decorating, gardening and crafts, last week lost a bid for a new trial. She is scheduled to be sentenced in June and faces possible prison time. A representative of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (MSO: Research, Estimates) and a lawyer for Martha Stewart were not immediately available to comment to Reuters. Martha Stewart Omnimedia reported Friday a loss of $20.1 million, or 41 cents a share, from continuing operations in the first quarter, up from $4.3 million, or 9 cents, a year earlier. Analysts surveyed by earnings tracker First Call were looking for a loss of 20 cents. The company said losses were greater than expected due to income tax expense. Revenue fell 23 percent to $44.5 million, roughly in line with the $45 million First Call forecast.

The Harrisburg, Pa.-based pasta maker, which is majority-owned by JLL Partners of New York, filed for protection under Chapter 11 of the bankruptcy code in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Harrisburg, according to court documents. Pasta sales have been hurt by the increasingly popular low-carbohydrate diets such as the Atkins diet. The filing listed debts totaling more than $167 million, most of it notes listing the indenture trustee as Bank of New York Co. Other creditors owed in the range of $100,000 to $1.9 million included milling, marketing and packaging companies. The company said it had secured debtor-in-possession financing from Black Diamond Commercial Finance LLC, without giving the amount. In March, New World Pasta announced that a majority of its lenders had approved an extension, allowing it to file its annual reports for the years 2002 and 2003. In February, the company said its cash flow were "not sufficient to fund the company's liquidity in 2004, and that it did not intend to make the 2004 bond interest payments scheduled for February and August 15, 2004." Among other brands of dry pasta the company sells in the United States and Canada are Creamette, San Giorgio, American Beauty and Skinner. The company hired the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP to represent it in the bankruptcy.

it lacks balance, taxes your kidneys and leaves you feeling tired. this is an old body building trick they did (and do) before contests to get ripped. they starve their body's of carbs and feed up on protein to keep the bulk. once read about one mr. america who could curl well over 100 lbs. before a contest he'd struggle doing reps with 20 lbs. not a healthy diet.
