I don't think they deserve dismissal, just a suspension ... and hearing Saban's comments on the news last night, it sounds like that's all it will be. He said LSU will appeal to the NCAA for reinstatement before the Sugar Bowl...
http://www.2theadvocate.com/stories/122403/lsu_suspend001.shtml The whole story ... along with NO reinstatement for these two in time for the game.
Damen Damen did NOT sell his tickets. His family has all 6 of them, to be used by his family members. He simply told the "buyer" that Carey wanted to sell some. He is being punished for simply telling the buyer where to buy tickets. NOT FAIR !
I think it's a tough lesson to learn and a bit unfair, BUT Damen should know better ! It was reported in the N.O. Times Picayune that Saban warned his players about selling the tickets. Shyrone was just stupid AND the TAF members who attempted to buy the tickets were equally as stupid. I know those big $$$ are tempting, but not worth the penalty. MERRY CHRISTMAS TIGER FANS !!!!! GEAUX TIGERS !
Damen Yes, he did know better, he didn't sell his tickets. I guess he figured if Shyrone wanted to sell his, that was his problem. How can someone be punished for "selling thier tickets" if they still have them and didn't accept a check for them. Damen's tickets are all spoken for, by his family members. Merry Christmas, I know it's a blue Christmas at the Damen household.
Sorry to see this happen. I don't know if Saban reported this to NCAA but I respect the decision for suspension. Saban got this team here with focus and discipline. If you let guys start to bend or break rules because its "harmless" then you set the precedent in the players mind that the rules don't always apply. Let's just hope they can contribute next year. I agree with sourdoughman. Losing the deep snapper is the kind of thing that allows big plays on defense.
Well, he shouldn't have even been in that situation--should have just kept his mouth shut. He should have already been leary of the entire thing based on UGA's players selling their rings, etc. He should have automatically said, "Hmmm, anything given to us (tickets), should NOT be sold." and then should have minded his own business. Unused player tickets get returned to the general population. If Carey had unused tickets, he should have just given them back--not look for a way to make a quick buck. Now, his "quick buck" has cost him playing in the National title game.
