.. and suppose you're not an LSU fan. Just for a minute. What question do you ask yourself as you decide to vote this weekend? Two basic philosphies:

    1) Mechanical. Do what you always do when teams lose. Drop them back 3 or 4 positions and allow a few teams just behind them that won to overtake them. This is what happens throughout the year without any true thought about what team is better or worse.

    2) Thoughtful. Rank the teams according to how well you think each has performed overall during the entire season. #1 will be the team that you think has played the best from week 1 through week 13.

IMO, BOTH of these work for LSU. If voters chose the thoughtful approach, OU will stay at #1. Even it's that's wrong I have no doubt that's what voters will do. In this case, no matter what happens to LSU/USC, LSU moves ahead on the SoS factor and computer polls. LSU vs OU in the Sugar.

The mechanical approach also works for LSU. If this were October, would OU fall to only #2??? Would be #3 at least. Again, only one spot separates LSU and USC and LSU makes up the difference.
