I would like the name of a few restaurants with great Cajun food that the locals eat at in New Orleans or around the French Quarter area.

I've done the K Pauls, Commander's Palace, Antoine's, Arnauds, Brennans, and all the excellent yet pricey touristy restaurants.

Where is someother places that I can get a great Cajun meal without having to pay those prices?

I would think that ANY restaurant in or around the Quarter will be insanely crowded in the days leading up to the game. Much better to go out to Metairie or the Lakefront area and get away from the crowds.

Hope you and Sherman enjoy your visit.

There used to be a lunch place downtown near the expressway overpass on Baronne or Common St. I would get a plate of red beans and rice with a fried pork chop the size of a frisbee. Anyone know of this place and whether it's still open?
By the way, Peabody, take Bucktown Tiger's advice and check out the Bon Ton at Magazine and Poydras (downtown). Start out with the turtle soup and order the shrimp stew for an entree. Finish up with the bread pudding and rum sauce. It'll make you pull for the Tigers.

The Coffee Pot at 714 St. Peter, next to Pat O'Brian's. Great lunch and inexpensive. They even serve a N.O. style breakfast. Home of the original red bean omelette.

Don't worry ramah, I have no intentions of trying to take one of your meaningless jobs from you. I know you need some source of income so you can provide for your litter back home.

1 Cajun(Acadiana) Food & Creole(New Orleans) Food are not the same thing.

2 Most of the places you have described would be considered Creole.

3 Alex Patouts in the Quarter, or Michaul's in the Warehouse District would be great reasonably priced cajun restaurants.

4 If you want some home cooking style food, check out cafe' Atchafalaya on Louisiana Ave. near the river.... it's a $10 cab ride from downtown, but worth the trip.... call ahead
