This is related to G_Man's earlier thread, but I thought it deserved a thread of its own. It looks like CBS was planning on running the "missing weapons" story Sunday night on 60 Minutes as a pre-election bomb-shell against Bush. Another pathetic attempt by America's source for disinformation to influence the election in favor of Kerry. First the phony Bush National Guard papers, then the attempted cover-up, now this. Pathetic. http://www.drudgereport.com/nbcw6.htm 60 MINS PLANNED BUSH MISSING EXPLOSIVES STORY FOR ELECTION EVE News of missing explosives in Iraq -- first reported in April 2003 -- was being resurrected for a 60 MINUTES election eve broadcast designed to knock the Bush administration into a crises mode. Jeff Fager, executive producer of the Sunday edition of 60 MINUTES, said in a statement that "our plan was to run the story on October 31." Elizabeth Jensen at the LOS ANGELES TIMES details on Tuesday how CBS NEWS and 60 MINUTES lost the story [which repackaged previously reported information on a large cache of explosives missing in Iraq, first published and broadcast in 2003]. The story instead debuted in the NYT. The paper slugged the story about missing explosives from April 2003 as "exclusive." An NBCNEWS crew embedded with troops moved in to secure the Al-Qaqaa weapons facility on April 10, 2003, one day after the liberation of Iraq. According to NBCNEWS, the explosives were already missing when the American troops arrived. It is not clear who exactly shopped an election eve repackaging of the missing explosives story. The LA TIMES claims: The source on the story first went to 60 MINUTES but also expressed interest in working with the NY TIMES... "The tip was received last Wednesday." CBSNEWS' plan to unleash the story just 24 hours before election day had one senior Bush official outraged. "Darn, I wanted to see the forged documents to show how this was somehow covered up," the Bush source, who asked not to be named, mocked, recalling last months CBS airing of fraudulent Bush national guard letters. Is this the same missing weapons story we been hearing in the past few days, or is that different from this?
well credit needs to be given to NBC....I saw on the other thread about this that they didn't initially report this and instead verified that it dates back to April of 2003 and that it had already been missing by the time the troops arrived to secure it.
60 minutes, was conspiring with the NYTimes, to report this on election eve. It seems their October surprise, will turn into November cries. Rex says he lost sleep over the initial report of missing weapons, well, we all should lose sleep, when members of the (supposed unbiased) press conspire to affect the outcome of an election. This goes way beyond free speech, and I for one am outraged, but sadly I'm at a loss as to what to do about it. :cuss:
You are absolutely right about that. It's actually a good thing the idiots at the NYT were greedy and broke the story ahead of CBS. It at least gives the truth time to come out. Would be interesting to know who confidentially leaked the story to them.
Now it looks like the Kerry camp is using it as the subject of a new campaign ad. Anyone else see any misleading statements here? :dis: :dis: :dis: http://www.johnkerry.com/video/102604_obligation.html KERRY/EDWARDS CAMPAIGN PREPARING CAMPAIGN AD ON MISSING EXPLOSIVES **Exclusive** :30 spot called "obligation" JOHN KERRY: "The obligation of a Commander in Chief is to keep our country safe. In Iraq, George Bush has overextended our troops..." JOHN KERRY: "...and now failed to secure 380 tons of deadly explosives."
