Trying to understand this. USC SOS is 13, LSU is 63. Dandy Don talked about the number of teams we've played with a losing record causing us to be so weak in this category. However, after USC whips Arizona they will have actually played 5 losing record teams to our 4 so far. I know Western Illinois (in particular since they're Div 1-AA) had a major negative impact on our SOS but what's the deal with USC at #13. If this has been discussed forgive the repetition.
W. Illinois did not have an impact. They are not figured into the SOS. But I agree the SOS thing doesn't make a lot of sense. I'm not saying LSUs should be higher but how other schools are so much higher than ours I don't understand.
Yeah The SOS doesn't make too much sense, That really shouldnt be a factor in the polls, but the Bcs is a bunch of bull anyway so it doesn't matter, LSU is getting robbed out of a much higher ranking. :geaux:
USC schedule strength will plummet when they play Arizona. Unfortunately it will be raised again when they play UCLA and Oregon State.
Guys...thats just it...if we would schedule another team from a BCS conference once in a while...there is no reason once a year we cant play a big school...every year...we have to pay more next year...alot more...so why cant we start having better games...we used to play teams now we play all layups...tell me if i am wrong here???
We could get better games, but LSU going to have to let go of this idea of 7 home games EVERY year. Especially with the ticket increase you would think that every few years we could do without a 7th home game. As long as that is in place though, the only years we are going to get good competition on the road is when we are allowed to have 12 games in a season, like this year. Then and only then will we get return trips.
Oh. Shoulda known that. Does it hurt us that they took up one of our potential "real" slots for another team. In other words, if we beat SMU for instance instead would our SOS ranking be better or worse? Just curious.
Playing SMU would have definitely been worse for our BCS strength of schedule, but as far as the computers are concerned, I'm not sure. Some times I think it's better to not play a game than to play a 0-8 team in OOC
yes, this is true. One thing I find odd is that for a few one loss teams, the game that hurt them the most was not the one they lost, but rather a victory against a poor opponent. Therefore had they lost to, say, oregon state, they would get more points than had they beaten, say, san jose state.
