Obviously OU is scurd by what happened with the Florida thang. Reportedly OU is doing something with Stoops contract to make sure he doesn't leave the university. Peabody, can you give us the 411?
One of the local TV sports reporters, Mark Rodgers reported that Florida offered Stoops 3.5 per year (or in the ballpark) on Monday, and then OU countered with 4 million a year on Wednsday night. Rodgers says that Stoops will take the 4 mil and stay at OU. Rodgers is usually pretty accurate with his reports.
OU knows good and well that they are one unfulfilled Bob Stoops away from becoming their worst nightmare... TEXAS They darn well should be on his front lawn singing Christmas Carols amd washing his cars. Bob Stoops is the best coach in college football (flame away, but I hope Saban can achieve his level of success).
I don't care if they pay him 10 mil a year. I remember the 90's. I don't want to be there again. I'll sing Christmas Carols on his front lawn, wash his cars, and scoop up dog**** in his backyard if need be.
If Stoops gets 4 mill a year and Urban gets a big pay day and with UF looking for a coach and Washington looking will we see a major escalation of salaries? Meyer really has ND where he'd want them. I mean if he was also offered by Florida and with Utah willing to give him a raise and the bad PR ND got in some quarters by firing Tyrone, Urban is due for a nice pay day. Lloyd Carr at Michigan makes "only" 1 million a year or so supposedly. If Stoops gets 4 mil will Coach Saban need to be compensated accordingly? It's not so much what you get paid, it's how are you paid relative to your peers.
No flaming necessary, I tend to agree with you. It's nice to see an LSU fan that can take off the purple and gold goggles from time to time.
Although I must say the Saban is one great QB away from surpassing Stoops level. Since Saban has been in BR, we have yet to have a stellar qb for an entire season.
I will agree with that - Saban also does not have Adrian Peterson. Stoops may be able to piggy back Peterson on his way to cementing his legacy - the kid is that good. A couple of more years and I believe Saban will pull along side Stoops in all aspects. I prefer Saban and his attitude and I love his emphasis on character and intelligence. I also think Saban needs to avoid another game like UGA this year - I have never seen a Stoops team dominated in that fashion and I've never seen a Stoops team get as outplayed as we did that day. For now I'll enjoy Saban's victory over Stoops - I just think Stoops is the gold standard and I think he wants to stay in college football. Stoops has maintained his excellence and I'm sure Coach Saban will also...
rumors, and I do not mean the Fleetwood Mac LP. Stoops and the OU president are saying they have not spoken about a new contract. Florida is denying they offered anything, and said they have no plans to contact Stoops until after the Big 12 CG this weekend. Stoops says he is happy and staying put. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/stories/120304dnspostoops.17604a9.html It is great for both LSU and OU that everytime a vacancy opens, our coaches are the first names mentioned, whether it is true or not.
