Last night was great and I was so fired up about LSU finally getting a little respect. After all, the Tigers did justify their defensive rankings against a supposedly "unstoppable" running game. LSU also showed a versatile, productive offense against a (again) supposedly stingy defense. So, against my better judgement (I am a Yankee fan) I watched ESPN this morning. Let's see: So Cal is the best of the "one loss" teams based upon their demolition of some Pac 10 team (Washington?). Florida State gave Bowden his millionth win and they may be unbeatable the rest of the way. The "Black Shirts" of Nebraska are back and woe to future Husker opponents. Georgia barely beat UAB but, hey, they were looking ahead to Florida so let's give them a pass. Ohio State discovered their offense against Dinardo so it looks like they are primed for a run. LSU? Who? Did they play a game last night? The final indignation was at the end of Gameday when the Three Dumbmigos hand out helmets for Saturday's performance. One goes to Ole Miss for holding Arkansas to 7 points. AUGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! :cuss: :cuss: Back to square one guys.
Yeah the Sportscenter recap of the game was all of what, 5 seconds? I think they showed one play and that was all of the coverage we got. Not that it much matters, but i'll be curious to see where cfn ranks us. At least their rankings have some rhyme and reason behind them - even if they matter to nobody but the fans.
As much as it pisses me off, I think it's best for the team to stay under the radar. We'll get their attention when we win the SEC and a BCS bowl.
Saban, I'm a Yankee fan too. Was sneaking a look at the baseball game during LSU timeouts. LSU winning big & Yankees losing was an interesting emotion. (also OT in the Tennessee-Alabama game)
I jumped over to the Ole Miss game for a minute late in the second qtr. It was at their half and they had gone to Corso and Co. They were raving at what LSU was doing to Auburn. On the other hand, we have a long way to go with Trev still. At the half he complimented Chad "Luh Vol Yay" and the LSU front Four. I stayed up to watch Gameday final. Trev had little comment for the SEC West. Mark May did speak on our behalf saying Ole Miss had no chance to beat us and that he was impressed at how we "embarrassed" Auburn !!
LSU's win was a tranquilizer for the pain of the Yankee's loss. If I had been watching the Yankees only, I would have been sooooo frustrated at their inability to get a hit. Beckett flat punked us. The Yankee haters can bring it and I will take their smack humbly because I know how happy they are. Had we lost to Auburn, the Aubie smack would have been unbearable.
quoted by aztiger, It is getting harder for them to put LSU off. JUst wait our time will come. Yeah, Trev Alberts was in a real pissy mood last night for the ESPN wrap up and at halftime. DId anyone else see that? Actually Lee Corso is the only one, smart enough to see the writing on the wall most of the time. Trev Alberts, and Herbstreet can kiss my @#% tiger-ass as far as I'm concerned. Anyway it just makes them look stupid, not to acknowledge us.
trev was pissy due to the fact he is wrong about lsu, he continues to make him self look bad.......he may be out of ajob if does not start to get things right... I would love to get the proper attention lsu desreves however this just makes it sweeter in the end. just think who knew?????
Since I was in Tiger Stadium I was spared the pain of actually watching the Yankees lose the World Series as native Baton Rougeon Andy Pettite pitched a great game but was outdueled by Burkett. Look for a big shakeup in the Yankee personell next year. Pitchers: Roger Clemens is retired Andy Pettite is a free agent. He talks about wanting to play for a Texas team to be with his family. Look for the Yanks to make him a rediculous offer he can't refuse. Having a great lefty in the rotation is crucial in Yankee Stadium. David Wells - A lot of speculation about whether Wells will be back but if I were Steinbrenner I would keep him. Another quality lefthander with great control who dosen't give up many walks. Wells loves being a Yankee and would probably sign for less than he could get from another team. Mike Mussina - Still under contract and if Pettite and Wells are gone he would be the only number one starter out of the 4 from this year. Mariano Rivera - Still young and still the greatest post season closer in major league history. The only reason he didn't get a chance to show his stuff was because the Yankees were behind in the late innings in the WS. Mo is going to be a Yankee as long as he has his stuff no matter what it costs. Jose Contreras - Cuban refugee signed for big bucks as a projected starter. Didn't live up to the hype but was a decent middle reliever in th playoffs. Might be tough to trade due to the size of his contract. All other pitchers on the staff are expendable and will be replaced as needed. Nelson was a really good setup man for Rivera during his previous stint with the Yanks but since being aquired from Seattle in a late season trade its obvious that he has lost a lot. Hitters: Only Derek Jeter, Jason Giambi,Bernie Williams and Matsui are untouchable. I think they will keep Alphonso Soriano as well despite his many strikeouts in the playoffs. If they get a good second baseman the outfield would be a good slot for Soriano. Nick Johnson is a decent first baseman and a good enough hitter to let the Yankees keep Giambi as a DH. The most glaring need is for a third baseman who can hit with consistent power. Aaron Boone was the hero in the 12th inning of game 7 against the Dead Sox but he made 6 errors in the playoffs as well as having a hole in his bat in the WS. Posada is a good catcher who handles the pitcher well, has a good arm and has come though with clutch hits in the past. Manager: Will Steinbrenner fire Joe Torre? Will Torre retire? Despite everything Torre has done in the past losing two World Series in three years might have the Boss looking for a replacement. After all New York is not Atlanta where asll Bobby Cox has to do is win the Braves division before losing in the playoffs year after year.
