I have thought about it and I can't think of any negatives about this guy. He recruits well in Oklahoma (Texas and OU rape the state as well as aTm and TT). He runs a decent offense, you can't base your entire assessment on one game OSU v OSU... he plays with one and two star kids and competes every year. So what are you negatives ?

Because it hurts their feelings, they were expecting to have out-of-staters come up to them and say: "I cannot believe you got <insert breathtaking coach here>! LSU must be the best University in the world!"

Other than feeling slapped in the face, there is not a strong argument against giving him a chance.

Something strange going on there...sounds like either Del Rio stood them up (through cold feet or contract problems or other reasons) or Skip stood him up (by finding out he was playing us for $$ or other reasons).

I just don't buy it was a misunderstanding. I'd hope they will interview him (or already have by some accounts), but La. papers are using sources to claim Miles will be offered.

Another article came out last night, that said contingent didn't fly to jacksonville in order to speak with del rio, his interview had been scheduled for Monday... Spurrier and Rodriguez were both in Jacksonville yesterday also.

Yea the JDR situation is all clusterf*****. I'll be interested to learn about it, if some reporter can get the full story on that.

Because he's NOT a proven winner. Most thought that with current state of the LSU program (facilities, talent, recent success) that we could have landed someone with a proven background. Instead, we've got a guy who is going to have to prove himself at LSU.

I'll get behind him and support our team like I always do. I'm not necessarily down on Miles. But, I am down on Skip. He had a task that needed to get done and he ended up falling back on his 4th or 5th choice.

    Here's the point

Is this guy a good football coach? Of course he is. The point is, the LSU program should have been in a position to hire a much better coach. This would have been a great hire for Ole Miss. Miles would be a great hire for a lot of programs. But for a supposedly "elite" program, coming off of a national championship? No, it's a very underwhelming hire. Of course all true Tiger fans will support the guy and give him a chance. He will not come in and wreck the program. But I see a slow slide beginning back toward mediocrity. Why not, for once, hire the up and coming guy, the "Spurrier-in-the-making"? (Petrino.) So Petrino was cocky and arrogant in his interview. So what? Does that mean we have to hire a hayseed from Oklahoma State? This is Curley Hallman Part Deux. (Curley was a good coach as well; just ask Joe Dean or Gil Brandt.) Of course, all of this is speculation, and the guy may come in here and do a great job. I hope he does. But I'm still wondering who these "big names" were that were interested in the job, a/c to Mr Bertman? Why not wait and see what interest there is in the NFL ranks? Why the rush to hire a 2d tier coach? I don't get it. Someone, whether it is Skip, or the BOS, really dropped the ball on this one. Very, very, very, hugely disappointing.

What does "not a proven winner" mean? Do you mean that he has not won a national championship? Is that what kind of coach you thought we would get? Compare his "non-proven" coaching record with Saban's "proven" record prior to his time at LSU. You will find that they are VERY similar. So similar, in fact, that the winning percentage for Saban at MSU and Miles at OSU was both 0.571.
