OK, I know it's early and spring ball hasn't even happened yet but just to discuss:

Who do you think will be replacing the starters we lose this year?

I have no idea on some of them thus my question. The only ones I figure will be:

    Terrell McGill for Peterman
    David Jones for Edwards

Hunt --> Jesse Daniels, Darryl Johnson, Steltz
Lavalais --> Stewart, Wroten, one of the Frosh
    Hill? --> Oliver, Merrill
Alexander --> Hollis, Kuale, one of the RSFR

Niswanger will be on the O Line but he can play everywhere, so we will see. I also think McGill will fill in somewhere.

    Mauck --> Russell, Flynn
Edwards --> Jones (who looks like a player)

Probably missed some, but I we cant tell for sure yet. They will battle it out in the spring and Coach Saban will play the best people, as we know. I really think we can be as good or better next year than this year.

Patrick Fisher is the punter from Maryland. We will also have Keith Zinger at TE along with David Jones.

    Probably:

Terrill McGill at RG for Steven Peterman
Rudy Niswanger at RT for Rodney Reed
David Jones at TE for Eric Edwards
Claude Wroten at DT for Chad Lavalais
EJ Kuale at OLB for Eric Alexander
Mario Stevenson at DB for Randall Gay (as Nickel DB)
Jesse Daniels at S for Jack Hunt
Pat Fisher at P for Donnie Jones
Amp Hill at WR for Devery Henderson

    Notes:

Ronnie Prude will be pushing Stevenson for Nickelback (the other will be 6th DB in a dime pkg)
Paris Hodges will be pushing McGill and Niswanger for playing time on the O-Line
Kenneth Hollis will push EJ Kuale for the starting job at OLB

    Possible Departures:

Kirston Pittman at DE for Marquis Hill (Melvin Oliver will see significant playing time as well)
Dwayne Bowe at WR for Micheal Clayton (also Doucet and Carter to challenge here unless redshirted)

I got a question and don't blast me before yall think it over. If, and it is a mighty big IF, Clayton leaves, who are our starters. Now, my dilemna(sp?) is this: Do we go Skyler and Bowe at 1 and 2? If we do go this way i am worried about putting Skyler at a starting WR slot. I will say that he is one of the bigger playmakers we have but i think we should leave him in the slot or run him on reverses and the like. I just havent seen a lot of hops on his part to make up for him being 5'8"-9". Your thoughts?

Amp Hill and Dwayne Bowe would be starting wideouts and Green will definitely stay in the slot where he is most dangerous. Early Doucet will be 3rd wideout and Xavier Carter would be 4th wideout in a 3 and 4 WR package. This is unless Saban decides to redshirt either or both of them. I do not see that happening unless Clayton is staying however. Look for Doucet and Carter both to challenge Bowe for the starting WR job.

Look for Gerald Watson to possibly backup Green in the slot. He is 5' 11" and 205 (a little bigger than Green).

What about Buster Davis ? I haven't heard much about him. I recall that he got in some of the games.

Hard to say where Buster Davis ends up in the WR equation. If he makes great strides in the spring then that may then make it possible for us to redshirt both Doucet and Carter. Davis could then challenge Bowe for WR job, or be the 3rd WR. And then you have Junior Joseph and Bennie Brezell, who could fight it out for 4th WR. Lots of ways to go, all depends on Clayton leaving and how the freshman who will be sophomores do in the spring. I just think it will be difficult to hold back Doucet and/or Carter from playing.

Wow, it is early, but I'll give it a go. First, Im going to assume all juniors are returning, then speculate on those that may not.

    QB:
    If Mauck leaves, JaMarcuss Russell

    WR:
    Michael Clayton
    Skyler Green
    Amp Hill

If Clayton leaves, I would think either Craig Davis or Dwayne Bowe, or Doucet or Carter if we get them. Wow, thats a hell of a list.

    TE:
    David Jones and Demetri Robinson.

    FB:
Not real sure how this position works. I know Jones lined up as a FB quite a bit, but with Eric Edwards gone, he will play much more TE. Maybe Steltz or Keith Zinger. Seems these two positions have become interchangible in our offense.

    OL:
Who knows who will play what position, but I assume Rudy Niswanger, Terrell McGill, and RSFR Brian Johnson will be in the mix to replace the two we are losing.

    DT:
Probably Brandon Washington or one of the freshmen (last years class). We are only losing Lavalais as a starter, but we are losing 3 players that saw considerable time at DT. We got a bunch of big name DEs last year in Kirston Pittman, Tim Washington, Sean Merrill, and Carnell Stewert, along with DT Jarrod Carter (rated #27 DT by rivals). Sean Merrill is the biggest of them all, so he may make the move over to DT. Also Charles Alexander, whos bigger than Merrill at around 280, and Glenn Dorsey from this years recruits.

    DE:
I dont think both will leave, so if one does, I would put Kirston Pittman in his place.

    LB:
This could be another shuffle. I dont think Saban has had any LBs play the same spot every year. I guess in 2000 and 2001, Faulk, James, and Lawrence all played the same spot from one year to the next. I guess Ken Hollis and Jason LeDoux will be in the mix, or maybe even a true frosh if we can land Luke Sanders. Seems like I remember Pittman being recruited as a DE/LB, too.

    CB:
Hopefully there wont be any change at this position, but depending on what happens, I expect to see Mario Stevenson seeing considerable playing time along with Ronnie Prude and Jessie Daniels.

    SS:
Obviously, Landry will be over at FS. I think we will probably see Darryl Johnson or Steltz here. If we dont lose any CBs, Jessie Daniels may start here.

Also, has Blain Bech been talking holding duties? He will be gone next year, too. Our kicking game doesnt need any more inconsistency.

Man, that was harder than I thought it would be. I had to go back and look at the roster and try to remember who was who. Hopefully this isnt too repetitive...there werent any replies when I started.
