The war in Iraq has never been about national security, and support for George W Bush has never been about support for strong leadership. If Al Gore had rightfully been allowed to take his place in the White House and had made the same political and military moves as has Bush he'd be excoriated by rightwingers and their press. Quite correctly, I might add. Surely even a Republican can see that climbing a pile of rubble at the WTC and shouting with bravado that he'd soon punish the perpetrators did not take any particular talent of will, courage, intelligence, or expression. An angry junior high schooler could have and would have done the same, although for my money Bush didn't look particularly angry. What constitutes strong leadership are not cheap words and foolish invasions. What we needed from strong leadership was a commitment to root out and punish the perpetrators for their henious crime against us, and to take those steps necessary to minimize the chances of similar deeds from other would-be perpetrators. That is certainly not what we got from George W. Bush. Tommy Franks tells us that when Osama Bin Laden was cornered in Tora Bora the Bush Administration removed American personnel and military resources and devoted them, instead, to an invasion of Iraq that Paul O'Neill and Richard Clarke said was in planning from day one. Rather than upholding the commitment he had made on top the pile of rubble, Bush chose to wage his personal vendetta against Saddam and attack a country that had not harmed us and was no threat to do so. And Dick Cheney. along with his Halliburton cronies, laughed all the way to the bank. If Bush had been honest on top that pile of rubble he would have shouted out a promise to attack Saddam and to never allow any event in Iraq to spoil his many vacations. Three years after 9/11 we still haven't caught Osama Bin Laden or Mullah Omar, and their names are hardly ever uttered from Bush Administration lips. What we have instead is a "catastrophic success" in Iraq wherein our soldiers keep dying while rebels control more and more cities. Bush's support is not about defense of this country. No rational person could conclude that the anger he's caused in the Muslim world and the recruiting bonanza he's given to Al Qaeda could be good for our defense. Instead, it's all about rancid political partisanship. The invasion must be defended at all costs because it was a Republican who ordered it, and there is no cost of American lives, money, and resources too great where the future of abortion, universal healthcare, and gun ownership laws are at stake.
Rex, Still waiting for you to produce those witnesses who claim that GW Bush whooped it up, pumped his fist and said it felt good when the first bombs started falling on Baghdad. You made the claim...now back it up with a source, or be damned for the liar you are.
MMmmmmmmmm nachos w/cheese & jalepeno's! Good when made at home too.. mmmm Mt. Olive jalepeno slices are good!
I am not going to say that the invasion has made the world a 100% safer place but to say it’s done nothing good is utterly and completely wrong. We have captured numerous Al-Qaeda cells and even some leaders from other smaller groups. We have raided numerous houses and grabbed plans of future attacks (though this has gotten so little news it amazes me because the attacks never came to be and so it’s though of that they were just either fake or not real).....Iraq is a safer place when it comes to terrorism cells. Iran and Syria and the rest of the Muslim world mad at us? Please, they were pissed off at us before and would be to this day even if we had not invaded Iraq.
I quit reading after... "To the Republicans on this board: I will not be answering your questions or responding to your posts... " How bout them Tigers! :usaflagwa :laflagwav :lsug:
Has anyone checked to see if rex is really snorton? I seem to remember ole snorty had a fetish for starting new threads, and could have a new one started before you answered the previous one. Well that shouldn't become a problem here, since no one seems to want to answer him anyway. Won't be much fun talking to himself! :thumb:
