Check out the front page of ESPN.com. I guess Jimmy Sexton found a way out of that contract for him. http://msn.espn.go.com/
Bob Barry , Jr. on wwls radio just got thru saying that he hopes the rumor Nick to Washington starts so it'll be a distraction to LSU. (11.55 am) GEAUX TIGERS!!!!
Here's the Spurrier news in the Washington Post online: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A41721-2003Dec30.html
Hard to imagine he tries for another NFL job. He made so much $$ in Washington and had more autonomy (hiring/firing assistants, etc.) than most coaches. No way he gets nearly that much say at another NFL job. I say he takes the year off and waits for college suitors to come calling next year. You know any "big time" program that (a) is not on probation and (b) is not happy with recent performance will come calling for him. I still think he'll want to return to the South, but who knows? I say another SEC team is likely--back home to Tennessee, perhaps, if Fulmer fails to deliver the SEC East crown for the third year running (and 5 out of the last 6) after 2004?
SABAN: Jimbo -- sit down. Our friend and former adversary Steve Spurrier is in the news. You hear about it? JIMBO : Well I hear that he's in D.C. MUSCHAMP: Um-uh. The owner of the Redskins turned down his request to coach there another year. His coaching passport's been invalidated except for return to the Gators. He landed in Chicago yesterday. He offered a gift of a million dollars if they let him coach the Bears. They turned him down. JIMBO: He's gonna try Nebraska. SABAN: Nebraska won't take him -- not for a million -- not for ten million. JIMBO: His coaching ability's reported as terminal ā the Fun Nā Gun is only gonna last another six months anyway. SABAN: He's been living off the same fade route for twenty years. JIMBO: That plane goes to Gainesville. SABAN: That's where I want it met. JIMBO: Nick that's impossible -- they'll turn him over to the Florida Athletic Department, the NFL, and half the NCAA. SABAN: It's not impossible. Nothing's impossible. JIMBO: I'd be like us trying to beat the Rams -- there's no way we can get to him. SABAN: Jimbo, you know you surprise me -- if anything in this life is certain -- if history has taught us anything -- it's that you can beat anybody. Will? MUSCHAMP: Difficult -- not impossible. JIMBO: Why did you ask me if something was wrong when I came in? SABAN: I thought you were goin' to tell me that -- you were going to move your family to Cincinnati -- and that you'd been offered the head coaching job there. I thought you were goin' to tell me that. JIMBO: I turned them down -- do I have to tell you about ever offer I turn down? SABAN: Let's do business. JIMBO: Alright -- just consider this Nick -- that's all just consider it. Now Spurrier and the Gators are on the run -- are they worth it? And are they strong -- is it worth it -- I mean you've won -- do you have to wipe everyone out? SABAN: I don't feel I have to wipe everyone out, Jimbo -- just my enemies -- that's all. Now are you gonna come along with me in these things I have to do -- or what. Because if not you can take your wife, your family, and your mistress -- and move 'em all to Cincy. JIMBO: Why do you hurt me Nick -- I've always been loyal to you -- I mean what is this. SABAN: So -- you're staying? JIMBO: Yes, I'm staying. Now what is it that you want me to do?
