Spurrier leaving South Carolina? Spurrier threatens to Quit. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2962823 http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/ncaa This just came across the wire. Two recruits were refused admission and Spurrier has blasted School officials.
I would like to know if the entry standards at USC are higher than the NC AA. If not, what keeps them out?
Certainly the players knew the admission requirements for the university. It is their responsibility to do whatever is required in order to meet SC's requirements. Not just to simply meet the NCAA's requirements. Spurrier has no point at all imo. He should make sure that the players are fully aware of what they need to do.
this story says nothing. why the outrage? so two students werent admitted, doesnt it happen all the time? css signed recruits that obviously werent qualified for admission. that's the fault of css and the students. is it always a given that if a student is qualified to play sports by the ncaa that they are guaranteed admission? i doubt it. was css promised by an admissions official that they would be admitted?
You would think that Spurrier would know what the standards at South Carolina were before he made promises. If the standards are higher than the NCAA he should recruit accordingly. I am not so sure Spurrier is on the right side with this. Looks like he may be feeling a little pressure to win. Throwing this out for the public could back fire.:geauxtige
At most schools the athletic admissions are completely different from the academic admissions. If the NCAA clears you, you are in in most cases.
Coaches at those schools who have higher admission standards for athletes know the standards, or at least they should know. I'm pretty sure Coach K knows not to recruit kids who can't meet their academic standards, even though they meet NCAA standards.
