Spurrier is trying to spin this situation at USC. On one hand, he says to USC fans not to listen to "the enemies" of South Carolina. On the other hand,
Spurrier is responding to the allegations of "the enemies" of USC with a written response to the complaints.

What is really odd is that "the enemies" Spurrier is talking about in the article
are approximately 90, yes NINETY, South Carolina high school coaches who have signed a letter of complaint regarding Spurrier's decision to pull 6 schollarships of current Gamecock players. Damn, that's
a lot of "enemies" in your own backyard in less than a year on the job and before he has even coached a game at South Carolina.

Hmm, how times and situations have changed.

    See link.

I have no problem with him taking schollies away. I think it should have been done earlier, but If those guys dont fit your system, you need those schollies for players you want. He did handle it at the wrong time though. Should have been done earlier.

It would be much different if it were my kid. But, college football is a business. You have to win games. If spurrier feels he cant win with those guys he has no obligation to keep them. He didnt recruit them. No one ever complains about how coaches get screwed when kids leave universities.

Yeah, I'm hoping to see a couple years or so of some good ol-fashioned woodshed type of embarrassments handed to Steve.

The timing is bad but I can't even imagine having 90 high school coaches in Louisiana signing a formal complaint letter and going public with their complaints against Les Miles or any LSU head coach in his first six months on the job. This certainly doesn't bode well for recruiting in South Carolina,
especially when Spurrier is going to need all the recruiting advantages he can find in order to get South Carolina to be competitive in the SEC-East.

What really amazes me is that the coaches are taking this public stance against a high profile coach like Spurrier. If Spurrier is right about those coaches being "enemies" of USC then he has a bigger job ahead than he probably thought when he accepted the USC position.

What most people failed to mention, SOS notified the players that they were not putting forth enough effort, i.e. workouts etc, and if they did not improve they would lose the scholarship. At least one has improved and will keep the scholarship and two are pending grades. Three are gone.....

And he did award those scholarships to walkons who were working their butts off and were willing to pay the price..... Those kids were rewarded for their work, those did not feel the need to work are being put on notice....

As far as the coaches; most are ClemSUCK grads looking for a ax to grind.... Most of the coach's are in agreement that the players must work to stay on the team, it is not a 4 year free ride...

I seem to recall that Coach Arnsbarger pulled five or six scholarships and some of them were lettermen when he took over the job. I did not think that it was fair to the athletes that were recruited by LSU. One of the kids was good enough to start for So. Miss. and that team might have been the one that beat the Tigers but I am not sure.

So Spurrier got rid of people's scholly during voluntary workouts because they weren't putting forth enough effort. Isn't that illegal?
