I been meaning to do this for you all, but didn't have the time. But here are a bunch of little tidbits about the spring from what I observed. QB: -Jefferson is your guy. He hasn't pulled away as much as the coaches had liked, but he has a very big lead and barring injury, he's your #1 against Washington. The offense is being geared more for a speedy QB to fit Shepard's style and that fits Jefferson, obviously than it does Lee. Chris Garrett for a young kid is a solid QB. He will be a starter here. Shepard can't throw the ball like the coaches want and he will be a gadget in the fall, not a solution. RB: Keiland will challenge Charles Scott hard for carries if Miles allows him to. He looked solid all spring, but Les infamously likes to keep Keiland off the field, because he's not always the best practice guy, so we'll see. Murphy is still a distance behind. WR: There is a real concern about the #4 receiver spot. The team is confident in LaFell and T. Toliver and likes anyone out of C. Mitchell, the other Toliver, Moten, etc... to secure the No. 3 spot. But the team really wants Reuban Randle to be ready to be a player in fall. OL: Looks very solid. Won't miss a beat if T-Bob gets to 100%. The defense won't be broken down into positions, but I can tell you they look sharp. They just had an attitude or edge about them all spring and they took it to the offense more often than not. Chavis and the other defense coaches are hard-nosed and are not afraid to get in kid's faces if they don't do things the LSU way. I predict the LSU defense to at least be in the Top 4 of the SEC this year again. They looked that good. Any questions, I am more than happy to answer as best I can.
All very good news. Question marks and problem areas from last year have been erased and no new question marks appear to have surfaced. Color me excited! Clair, how does Coleman look at LB? Is he the solution to the lack of LB coverage ability that we saw last year? I don't want to see my team get burned by five-yarders all day again this year... :LSU231:
Clair, Do you think guard play will be seamless? The Hebert injury has been known, but replacing Big Herm is no problem? If not, that is truly good news and was probably my biggest question mark. I am always worried about the line.
Do you see Shepard getting more snaps like Tebow his freshman year, a change of pace, or do you see him lining up in the backfield and in the slot more?
Good question. And just how bad off are we if T-Bob doesn't get 100% or goes down again? O-Lineman staying 100% after major knee surgery just seems rare. I'm not real confident.
one of the things that concerned me at the spring game was the number of muffed snaps to the quarterback from center.
And we are a bit thin on the Oline also. With the number of nicks and/or injuries in a given season, I worry about the drop off with our 2nd team Oline. Seems like we can plug in experienced replacements in most positions except there. Well, I suppose if the Oline and Dline make it through the Auburn game... Sorry, couldn't resist.
Sounds promising. Your remarks about Shepard does not surprise me at all. I always figured him to play running back or wide receiver in college. His passing game in high school was medicore at best.
Shep will play QB, thats my prediction, he has the arm, he needs the coaching. Please remember how they did Pat White.
