For those who were unable to see Friday's Inside LSU Football, they asked Marcus Spears and Matt Mauck if they were going to return for their senior season.

Spears announced that he would return because of the experience that Lavalais had as a senior.

Mauck smiled and pushed Spears in front of him instead of answering. I interpreted this as Mauck's way of saying that he will not return next year.

I would love to see Matt stay on for his Sr. year, but in all honesty, if you were him, getting married next month, completed your degree--with a 3.72 GPA mind you, and medical school waiting in the wings--something that will drastically improve the lives of he and his future wife, what would you do???

Remember, he's 25. I just turned 26, so I feel as if I can relate to Matt a bit (except for the fact that I'm not the hero on the LSU campus :D)--I was glad to be out of school--to be finished--to have a degree that I can use to start my career and move on with my life--and he STILL has about 6-8 MORE years of school before he can say, "Ok, TODAY is the day that I can start my career."

I think LSU ought to sit Mauck down for the Sugar Bowl and start JaMarcus Russell.

But seriously, folks ... anyone else remember some very similar posts earlier in the year? Congratulations to Matt Mauck for elevating his own play and that of his team. Here is a guy who, when he was first signed, I doubt any of us gave much thought to. Now he will go down as one of the legendary quarterbacks in LSU history.

Glad to hear Spears is coming back. As for Mauck, you are right, Boston. There is much that awaits him in life. If he choses not to return I would be sorry for the team but would wish him all of the very best.

Spears staying is definitely good news. I watched the show and I don't understand why they asked Mauck, because he said he wouldn't decide until after the game.

    If we win:
I would bet that Matt probably will leave, when you consider him
getting married and his age and then Dental school.

I don't mean to dampen anything but how many teams are successful at defending thier title?

    But if we lose
I think he just might come back if enough players stay to try it again.

I will be surprised if Matt is planning to leave. I feel certain that Nick knows he will return or he would have let a freshman play some this year.

Whatever Matt Mauck decides to do, he is 17-2 as a starting QB at LSU, and he went from being a very average passer last year to being the SEC leader in pass efficiency this year, which meant playing better than QB's with more experience like Eli Manning, David Greene, and Casey Clausen, not to mention talented guys like Chris Leak.

If the Tigers win tonight, Matt Mauck will rightly be considered one of the best QB's to ever put on the purple and gold.

I would love for him to come back and play next year, but if he decides to pursue his chosen profession, I and many other Tiger fans will wish him well and be thankful for his efforts on behalf of the team.
