George Will is the best conservative writer out there. He is smart, articulate, pragmatic, and consistently leans toward the middle. He does not walk in lock-step with the neo-con Republican agenda. Furthermore he is not deaf to the liberals and gives them credit on the rare occasions when he buys their argument. If a centrist party ever emerges, it would do well to adopt a Will-like moderate-conservative political stance.
I agree completely. I don't want commentators who religiously toe the party line. I want learned opinion that just says what is, not what they'd want it to be. Charley Reese is another columnist I like. Although we disagree on his Bush post 9/11 opinions, I still admire his observations on the American scene.
