http://health.usnews.com/usnews/health/healthday/080228/spanking-raises-chances-of-risky-deviant-sexual-behavior.htm "A meta-analysis of spanking studies conducted by Gershoff found 93 percent agreement among studies that spanking can lead to such problems as delinquent and anti-social behavior in childhood along with aggression, criminal and anti-social behavior and spousal or child abuse as an adult. "There's probably nothing else in child development that has 93 percent agreement in results," Straus said. Five percent of people who have never been spanked hit their partners, versus 25 percent of those who were spanked frequently. They found that spanking and other corporal punishment is associated with an increased probability of verbally and physically coercing a dating partner to have sex; risky sex such as premarital sex without using a condom; and masochistic sex such as spanking during sex. There is a "dose response" at work here. "The more parents spank, the higher the probability of harmful side effects," Straus noted. It's the same with spanking, Straus said. "If a person says, 'I was spanked, and I don't have any interest in bondage and discipline sex, that's correct, but it's not because spanking is OK, it's because they're one of the lucky ones."" now i know why i have a gimp in the basement.
As in everything, there is a balance to be achieved in punishing children. Neither permissive nor abusive.
I have a better idea for a study...... Go to your local Wal-Mart. The kids who are behaving know they will get popped if they act up. The ones throwing a fit usually have a parent nearby saying: "Now Caden (or Jaden, or Kolby, or whatever "trendy name the mom gave them), stop that, or you'll go time out. 1...2...3..."
Probably why the lil bastids was spanked in the 1st place. I doubt they were getting spanked for being perfect lil angels.
i dont get it. do you get that the part you quoted is talking about physical violence against a spouse?
What I'm saying is this: They were spanked as kids because they behaved badly. Should we really be shocked that they're still behaving badly?
Funniest crap ever, so I'm laying on the couch the other day and my wife is telling my son (the little guy in my avitar) to do whatever it is she wanted him to do. He of course was not in the mood to comply and I told her to pass him a slap on the a$$. She instead starts that counting stuff. She got to "one" and when I heard him reply with "Tewwwww" I about lost my mind. I fell off the couch laughing and took at least 5 minutes before I could go to the kitchen. She was not happy and did not find this to be amusing as I did.
