I didn't get a chance to see S.C.-UGA game yesterday because I was at the game. Those of you that did get to see them play, what is the outlook on them? How did their QB Blake Mitchell look?
I watched most of it and they have the best defense they've had in as long as I can remember. The offense is decent but not great, Mitchell looked OK and they have one good RB. We will kill them.
I agree with drc's assessment. They returned 10 on the defense and Mitchell is like Terry said, inconsistent. In fact, I thought about the dang thread with him and potted plant debating Mitchell's ability. Spurrier still makes those faces like someone whizzed in his cornflakes but he be da man. :hihi:
1 of 11 on 3rd down conversions is the most telling stat I saw in the game. Richt and his staff were very bland with the calls...the one "trick play" they called was the same play they did 2 years ago vs South Carolina. It was read quickly. My opinions on Georgia have dropped considerably. But, the opinion I have on SC is the same. LSU will win by double digits...as in 3+ TD's.
Them beating UGA is bad news for us. I think we all agree that UGA,Florida, and SC are the top schools this year in the East. UGA being the only team that we dont face this year was the pick everyone wanted in the SECC. But know you have to look at the fact that we MAY have to play a team that we have arleady beaten in the SECC and we all know how that does not help us in the computers/polls. Of course this is means nothing once we go undefeated!
Spurrier is still Spurrier. When you beat Georgia between the hedges you are playing good football. Remember, South Carolina had the Gators all but beat last year when the had a field goal blocked. Expect a battle when they come to BR. I was impressed with SC's improved defense and the play of their OL yesterday.
Yep, I was pulling for UGA just because of the fact that I don't want to possibly play Spurrier twice in one season. But SC was...impressive. Had Stafford not made a few mistakes, UGA could have won, but that's their bad homie.
The only time we've done that, we were catapulted into the BCS NC game. Of course, we didn't get the no. 2 ranking because we beat the same team twice. But still, it doesn't seem to be that big of a deal. Besides, if we just take care of business, we won't ever drop below no. 2 this year and it won't matter who we play in Atlanta as long as we beat them.
But because of that situation is why there was that cloud of doubt surrounding the BCS. And this all speculation USC could drop 2 and if UGA beats Florida then we still play UGA in the SECC. Thats why I said "this means nothing when we go undefeated"
So if it comes down to LSU or OU playing in the BCSNCG, which do you think favors a team more...playing one of the solid teams from the SEC East for a second time, or playing some cupcake from the Big XII North? Despite the fact that playing a team twice might not exactly help your computer ranking, the humans polls do factor in the difficulty of beating the same team twice in once year (as was the case in 2003).
