Sounds like a LSU/Southern game is very controversial I was just listening to WJBO, and they had a couple people call in that thought the only reason LSU won't play Southern is because we don't want to give a black college any money. Now looking on how much playing small schools hurts our BCS standings, what other excuse do people need. The only reason we scheduled these small schools is because bigger schools backed out and we needed to fill the void
Just like every other in-state school they will search for any reason to call LSU "scared" or look like the bad guy. Now this comment about LSU doesn't want to give a black college money is just low and classless. The Al Sharptons and Jesse Jacksons of the world will attempt to make this a racial issue when it simply is not. LSU needs to play the best available opponents if it wishes to be competitive on the national level. This has nothing to do with denying a black school money. Perhaps if Southern were a 1A school we might consider the game, but I think the time for LSU playing 1A schools is over.
If they were a Div. I-A school, there would be no "perhaps" about it... LSU would have included them in the rotation schedule along with UL-M, La Tech, etc.
this is not a charity it is a Div 1a team trying to win a national champ. Sorry we need to play more big time programs and put that NC under our belts. enjoy the rest of your fall.
Exactly right, aztiger03....Southern is feeling an AD budget crunch, and the money they're getting from the Classic evidently isn't even enough to foot the bill.... The entire SWAC bases its budgets on the crowds that Southern will bring on its road trips. FAMU gets the benefit of it as well. SU and GSU both balance their AD books on the Bayou Classic. Why else would perenially powerful D-1AA programs like those two would pass up the chance to participate in the D-1AA playoffs? Of course because the AD has to come OUT OF POCKET for the roadtrips...No way Southern, GSU, etc., could come close to being able to afford that, and when you have the other option of just staying home and playing Grambling for a HUGE payday, why bother? We'd be propping up the budget of three small in-state school AD's per year, thanks to Skip's ridiculous BCS ranking killing philosophies, and inept contractural wordings thanks to Jim Bean Dean and the crew of malcontents from the previous administration. I'm not for it, never will be, and that's "jussa facts, jack"...
