Good article on CNN.com: </H4> http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/TV/06/15/television.sopranos.reut/index.html
Pretty much what I thought but I still want to believe the music. David Chase wont say for sure because he doesnt know what kind of deals will come his way to do a movie or bring the show back in the future. Great ending. It made you confused, shocked, angry, and even a little happy everything was sorta working out with his family. AJ saying something that he learned from Tony brought back memories of Tony learning about the good and the bad of Johnny Boy(his father). I might have to watch from the 1st season again. The 2nd time around was great because you catch all the symbolism and theories that come together from one season to the next.
I think David Chase's comment about the ending being "all there" is true. It is all there. And the last scene we see of the final episode before it all goes away is what?....Tony Soprano alive! Everything after that screen goes to black is pure SPECULATION and BLIND THEORY. Sure some of the theories are rather interesting and enigmatic I admit. But, I am going to believe the creator and writer of the show himself who said..."It's all there"
The Chase comments doesnt really mean anything to me since the comment could have gone either way. James basically said the same thing. It is up in the air and cast and fans can view it how they want. That will not change unless they get a chance to follow it up in the future.
Interesting article about the final scene of the Sopranos. David Chase personally directed the 1st and last episodes. This guy really goes deep and some of it makes sence. He comes up with all kinds of details from the Godfather and the Catholic religion. Very long but worth the read if you have the time. The writer of this article is also a TV show writer, He has written for CSI. I know some of yall dont like to get this deep into it but having seen the episodes so many times it is hard to argue against David Chase being very deep himself. http://www.bobharris.com/content/view/1406/1/
i think the intent of the episode was to fade out instead of being explosive. to be the anti-climax. the mob business is less relevant. the fbi mob specialist is diverted to terrorism duty. things are so insignificant he actually takes sides, and helps and cheers on the new jersey side when he hears they killed phil. he has bigger fish to fry, the mob is a sport to him, insignificant. chinatown is overtaking little italy. the tourbus mentions it, and then that guy that works for phil manages to walk out of little italy in a few steps while talking to phil on the phone. the italians are losing influence. AJ looked like he might follow in tony's footsteps when he was hanging with those college bookie guys and pouring acid on that dude. but he decided against it and now he is going into movies. the buildup is to nothing, literally, black screen. the biggest problem to resolve in the final scene is trying to parallel park.
Dunno bout you guys but I still get the gidds for this show. Saw some edited for TV couple weeks ago and really, it's like watching a porn from the 20's. Painful it was. So I ordered it, season 1, disk 1 from netflix and now I am waiting at the fence for the mailman. I know some of ya bought the entire series, "on demand", whatever so screw ya. This is for the passionate, the loser's like me who just can't let it geaux. I am gonna watch every season, in order, just like it happend before. Some things you just gotta do. :usaflagwa
I re-watched the series a few times myself. I tend to do that with many of the great series like the Wire and just finishing up Rome again and they seem to be better the 2nd time around. Just do it. View attachment 13286
I have avoided the edited for AMC reruns. It's too soon for me. I'll wait a few years and then watch the original series again sequentially . I know for sure that I missed about 4 episodes the first time around and I saw many of them out of order.
