Something the Oregon - Florida State game really taught me...

... is just how inept our coaching staff has been for years now. I mean, I knew there had been problems, but overall, I thought we were still decent. However, when you see a team like Oregon who can get a play called, communicated from the booth down to the field, communicated to the players, and the ball snapped, all within 15 seconds or so of the previous play ending, it really drives the point home how crappy our coaches have been in certain areas.

Seriously, how many crucial delay of game penalties have you seen us rack up in the Les Miles era because we can't figure out how to get the stupid play in on time? Now, how many have you seen overall? Can you imagine Oregon's coaching staff not knowing when to call a time out? Can you imagine them mismanaging the clock on a repeated basis in crucial game time situations? Can you imagine them taking unnecessary delay of game penalties or wasting time outs because they can't get their thumbs out of their asses and get a play in? Frankly, I cannot see any of those things happening at Oregon, certainly not with regularity.

I would not be in favor of running the type of offense that Oregon does. I like a strong power running game and solid defense. However, when you see what efficiency and competence really looks like, it certainly makes our lack thereof stand out all the more.

Maybe they play their smart qb instead of the idiot they are trying to force upon the team just because he was supposed to be next. All i can say is BH must be dumb as a box of rocks and i do not see how he ever achieved the gpa necessary to attend LSU and play football, either that or Les Miles is a bigger doofus than expected which at this point is totally believable.

QB capability can't be understated here. Mariota has been a really good QB for more than just his senior year. And you have to have a HC who isn't a control freak and trusts the QB to audible when necessary. That issue came to light with Kiffin and Barkley. Kiffin had a whistle that he would blow if he didn't like what Barkley was doing and a time out would have to be called. He almost never let Barkley audibilize and in his senior year, we had a ridiculous amount of game delay penalities.

Agreed on both of your posts. However, since we have had the same problem in getting plays in through multiple offensive coordinators and multiple quarterbacks, the evidence points to something that is flawed from a process and procedure standpoint in getting plays called on time. That comes back to the head coach.

To call a play quickly you have to process your situation quickly.

I've ALWAYS said Miles scares me on the sidelines and is not my game day coach. THAT has been my knock against him. THEN I've come to understand that he's not AS lost as he appears, though still no Spurrier as far as managing a game. Maybe that comes from positions played. Spurrier WAS a QB; where as, meathead was, well, a meathead lineman.

Well I can tell you it's not because Brandon Harris is an idiot, or dumb as than a box of rocks. All of his HS coaches raved about him, his coachability, and the kid is definitely no moron. Minus Mett and Flynn, we've seen this play out through Miles' tenure.

He may not be but the question is how well is he learning the playbook and can he command the offense. Say what you want about Jennings and his play, that's totally fair, but he is a tough son of a bitch, and does run the huddle and the offense really well. He just has problems completing passes.

Harris was night and day better than Jennings vs. MooU. And while we'll never know, how much better do you think Jennings would've done in the Auburn game?

We have seen almost zero improvement from Game 1 thru the Bowl with Jennings. My only point about Harris has been, while green and needs experience, he has much more upside and is all around more athletic than Jennings is. He should've gotten a majority of the reps and allowed to take his lumps, that's how you get better.

He has improved as a runner. That's about it. I also think Jennings was the only person on offense that showed up against Alabama. He's stunk in a lot of games, I'm just not going to crucify the kid because he is tough and has heart. The whole world wanted to give the job to Harris who has proven less than Jennings has. Jordan Jefferson was athletic and talented too.

Honestly I hope Harris becomes what everyone else expects because if not LSU is in for another few years of misery.

    Brandon Harris

    25/45 452 yrds, 55.6%, 3 sacks, , 10 yrd avg, 6 TD, 2 INTs, 175.0 QBR

    Anthony Jennings

    111/227 1611 yrds, 48.9%, 22 sacks, 7.1 yrd avg, 11 TDs, 7 INTs, 118.3 QBR

And Harris only got a little playing time (mainly 2 games), and his numbers are well above Jennings for the length of his playing time. I'd say our chance of winning goes up with Harris.
