So, will Bush pardon Rove and Libby?

I see a good chance of that happening.

Rove and Libby are cooked, at the very least for lying to the FBI and to the Fitzgerald Grand Jury. Rove lied about his conversations with Matthew Cooper, and we've learned this week that Libby tried to hide his June 2003 conversations with Judith Miller.

Those 2003 communications are important because they preceded the Joseph Wilson article that debunked Bush's Niger uranium claim. The circumstance indicates an earlier conspiracy, and the WSJ reports today that Fitzgerald has, indeed, now shifted the focus of his investigation from that of a mere leak to a broad Administration conspiracy.

Indictments are quite probable. The question will soon become whether Rove and Libby are willing to take the fall all on their own.

I see Bush pardoning them. Why? Because those two angry insiders can put Bush in prison, too, for much worse than a leak. How about treason for starters? Was Harriet Miers's nomination an attempt to stack the deck in case Bush finds himself on trial? That's a strong possibility.

Bush will pardon Rove and Libby because we see that almost half of Americans will not hold him accountable for anything. An Ipsos poll this week showed that 44% of Americans would not support impeachment even if Bush lied about Iraq to go to war. How absurdly callous is that?

The average American on the street hasn't paid much attention to the Plame affair because our rightwing mainstream media hasn't responsibly covered the story. Pardoning Rove and Libby will not carry the gravity it deserves. But chew on this: the Bush Administration conspired to out an American covert agent working against WMD proliferation while it tried to scare us into war on a WMD premise. Those evil, evil bastards didn't care one tiny bit that they put everybody Plame had worked with in mortal danger. Nor did they truly care about any WMDs or they wouldn't have destroyed an anti-WMD operation. Unfortunately, 44% of Americans would let them get away with it.

They have to be indicted first. Also I think George Bush has enough character to no stand by guilty men.

At this point, yes, I think Bush would pardon them (or any other cronies.) After a pardon, he could nominate them for the Supreme Court.

If they were convicted today, they still wouldn't be eligible for a pardon under Bush's watch. At least that's my understanding of the way it works.

He should have nominated FEMA's Brown for the Supreme Court to really stick it to their asses.

You mean to really demonstrate that he is incompetent to appoint government officials? Not even Bush is that stupid.

I see a better chance of Rex attending the million man march than Karl Rove or
Tom Delay ever being found guilty of any crimes.
