The worse possible thing to happen is a very exciting and close loss by Florida in the SECCG. That'll make it easy for the Orange to take Florida over us. That would also throw Florida into the Rose Bowl mix. If Ark wins, it needs to be a very decisive win. Should Florida win, the Rose will have to choose between LSU and ND. We'll see if the Rose Bowl committee takes the best matchup or takes the money.
I am still confused on who I should be forced to root for.... ISLSTL Can you please tell us who we need to be pulling for this Sat nite???? :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige
Pull for Florida over Arky. If Florida wins, that leaves Arky out of the mix, Auburn is already out of the mix and leaves only LSU and UF as viable BCS candidates. probably a done deal at that point. Florida goes to Sugar and LSU goes either to Rose or Orange. If Florida loses, more is up in the air. The argument will be that there are 4 two-loss teams in the SEC who are deserving: Arky, LSU, UF, and UA. Arky and LSU will be the highest ranked. Auburn is already out of the picture, so forget them. It comes down to UF or LSU. Only one can go if Arky wins (sending them to the Sugar). LSU will be the higher ranked team and the more attractive, in terms of football matchup, but UF could get the nod because a) they beat us head to head, and b) some could see them as bringing in more ratings and $$$ (orange?). The Rose tends to do what it wants to do, so let's say Florida loses. If so, the Rose will simply have to decide whether to take LSU or not. If they do, then it is over for UF by BCS rule. If the Rose ends up taking ND (assuming MICH is the opponent, meaning USC beats UCLA and is in the title game), then it comes down to the Orange. Who do they take? Most here seem to think that the Orange would favor Florida. If that is true, then UF gets in and we get left holding the Cap One bag, I guess. :dis:
I will also welcome some clarification, but here is my current understanding: 1) Notre Dame is still a possibility for the Rose Bowl. If the Rose Bowl passes on them, then Notre Dame will most likely wind up in the Sugar Bowl against the SEC champ. 2) If UCLA upsets USC this week, then it would be better for LSU if Florida loses to Arkansas, because then LSU will almost assuredly move up to #3, behind Ohio State and Michigan. This is because both Florida and USC would fall down from their current positions, allowing Michigan and LSU to move up. At #3, we'd be guaranteed a BCS spot, and the thinking is the Rose Bowl would be more likely to take us there (to face USC). 3) If USC wins this week, then it would be better if Florida wins this week, so that they take the SEC spot in the Sugar Bowl, leaving LSU as the most attractive SEC team that is available. If Florida does lose, it would be best for LSU if Arkansas destroys them by a few touchdowns, so that Florida doesn't look as attractive to the Rose Bowl, even though they will be able to say that they beat us earlier in the season. If Florida plays a good close game yet loses to Arkansas, then they may be more attractive to the Rose Bowl, so it'd be better for them to win the game or lose badly if they don't win.
100 percent correct on everything you just said. The only thing I would add is that if USC lost, the Rose Bowl would be much more inclined to pass on Notre Dame, since the shellacking is fresh in their memory from last weekend.
Then the idiots would start saying that Boise State has proven they deserved their bid because they beat the almighty ND. That's the problem with overrated teams playing each other. See Louisville, WV, and Rutgers for prime examples. I want to see either Arky or Florida vs ND in the Sugar and win by 20+. And of course LSU in the Rose.
my disciples are sounding pretty damn smart these days....bravo on your post. The only thing to add is Florida losing big doesn't look good to the Orange Bowl folks either, should Notre Dame be taken by the Rose. I don't really consider Florida a threat to us for the Rose Bowl (especially after a loss). It's the Rose Bowl I would be concerned with, and rightfully so, as the Orange is ready to pounce on Florida, should they lose close to Arkansas. And the Orange left would be our only shot if we get passed over by the Rose.
Something BCS people aren't talking about: Isn't there a rule now which prevents teams playing in the BCS championship game that didn't win their conference? Won't that preclude Michigan from being in the CCG? Won't a USC loss and a Florida loss basically mean that Arkansas/Louisville (depending on Rutgers losing at WV) would be in the CCG (and USC might still have a shot)?
That was definitely bandied about after the 2003 "fiasco" with Oklahoma (not to mention the even bigger fiasco with Nebraska in 2001). But it was never agreed to and the BCS just copped out for the easy solution and basically gave the power back to the human polls, sadly. BCS = bunch of pussies
Nah, if there was a rule like that no one would be talkin about a rematch either. But because there isnt' a rule like that teams from the pac 10 or big 10 without conferences championship games have the possibility to send 2 teams to the championship game if the 2 teams dont' play, or even like this year with them playing and still being 1 and 2....:nope:
