Slow day, is it too early to start discussing State?

You know. I keep hearing how they're much improved and I haven't really read up on them too much for this upcoming season. What caught me off-guard was the ESPN-U simulation that had us winning 28-14. If State scores 14 points on us, I'll be a bit stifled and none-the-less VERY much worried about the Va Tech game. Not that giving up two TDs to an SEC team worries me, but MSU's offense, I'm sure, isn't supposed to be great. No more Jerious.

So if you guys don't think that it's too early, let's get this ball rolling.

I see a decent bit of offensive returners. Henig, Dixon. But anything special there?

I'd be worried if we gave up 14, but not alot. Could just be first quarter jitters.

And if it ends up being 48-14 I wouldn't be worried at all.

I may still be worried even if we score 48. But maybe not. We all know that our defense is going to be great, it's the offense that needs work, so maybe you're right.

We gave up 17 last year. I won't be worried, as long as we score 50. :hihi:

It's a prime time game along with being the first game of the season.

I think it is very important to not let State get an easy or early touchdown, or score first. Momentum is huge in upsets and I would love for Flynn to be able to get in a nice flow and reacquaint himself with SEC speed. I would hate for him to have to play catch up that night.

I think we win 24-6

As long as State gets their 14 points in the 4th when our 3rd strings are in there doing mop up duty - i'm ok.

Miss St. is going to have a pretty good D especially on the Dline. Might be a good test to get our Oline and RBs in the flow early this year. I wouldnt be surprised if the running game struggles a bit.

its more likely that lsu scores over 40 than lsu holds them to less than 14. sounds strange considering that offenses lag behind defenses early in the season, but its on the road and their OL should be good. their DL should be weak (for them, considering its usually their strong point). plus, bo's D takes chances and it may take a few series to figure out how to get to henig.

the only way lsu scores less than 40 is if lsu is up big early and coasts.

It's absolutely not too early to be having this discussion! (In fact...if we don't start talking about football soon...I may get banned!!)

I also keep hearing about how MSU is improved...but isn't that a relative term?? Hard not to improve from what they've been lately...seriously. I don't expect much of a problem for LSU in this game...but wouldn't be surprised to see MSU go .500 this year.

I am curious to see how our running game stacks up against their D...if you recall, last year's game was over in a hurry...as JR just dropped back and bombed away. But, part of the reason for that was because they stopped our running game early. I remember one of the long early touchdown passes was on 3rd and long...due to the fact that the run had been stuffed on the previous two plays. It was nice to know that we could just go to another facet of our game to dismantle them...but I'd like to see us dominate the LOS early on this year...will give Flynn some more time to find his groove...as well as the young receivers. Hopefully, more use of the TE will help us this year.
