ralph lauren fires filippa hamilton because she cant fit into their clothes. she is 5'10' 120 lbs but what is bad is that they photoshopped her to make her look skinny (without her knowledge)
good lord. that second picture is sick. she's three inches taller than me and weighs the same. they consider that too fat? they would think i am a tub of lard. which is funny, considering i wear a lot of ralph lauren chaps line clothes. the smallest i can get is size 4. i cant find size 2 so a lot of the 4's i have to have taken up. i guess they expect their models to wear negative sizes? :rolleye33:
and their choices in models interests you why? what is bad about that? lets assume for the sake of argument that you agree with goofy femininsts about unhealthy body images. and lets assume that the reason you care is that you want little girls not exposed to dangerous imagery so they can have a healthy body image. and lets assume that you care about their body image because you care about healthy kids. given that, isnt a the obesity problem roughly 100 million times more worrisome of a problem than the 4 girls in america who die of anorexia per year? should we (if we cared about this, which i dont) be more concerned about any all all fat models or celebrities and the examples they are setting? do you know how many people a year die because of obesity related issues?
also i have the solution, if you think the imagery presented by the fashion industry is dangerous. have the government take away management of the industry from women and gays and let straight men handle it. evolution has designed us such that we actually like fertile hips and sweet breasteses. unlike gays, we dont like the skinny rail bodies that look like 13 year old boys. so even though the feminists might point out that we live in a male dominated patriarchal society, the women and gays that run fashion are the ones to blame for these crazy skinny images. men like fertility. that means feminine shapes. another things is that we should never be critical of these industries, because the assumption there is that they have some responsibility to us to present healthy imagery. they have no such responsibility and to claim they do only succeeds in convincing stupid little girls that they shouldnt think for themselves, but instead depend on outside influences. it discourages independent critical thinking when we blame anyone but parents and people. calvin klein has no responsibility to do anything other than sell clothes if they want. to be critical of their skinny models is to claim they should be doing a better job raising our kids.
it interests me because i am a social being. i am interested in psychology of masses and the forces that drive them. i disagree with them, in so much as she is much more beautiful unaltered. (although i must disclose that i find a clean shaven woman equally disgusting) but dont worry, it doesnt make me angry. perhaps it would if i had daughters with selfesteem issues. isnt this like bringing up how bad W was when someone gripes about O? sure obesity is a bigger issue. would you care to start another thread? besides i think its naive to think the only affect this type of societal pressure has on women results in anorexia. id say it contributes to millions of women being less happy than they otherwise would be.
in which case the solution would be to be angry at yourself for allowing your daughter to be tricked by marketing. i often discuss our food policy, it is a far better issue. prepare yourself for two consecutive puns. while this dangerous imagery issue is more fashionable, the obesity issue is relatively much bigger. feeling the urge to be thin is something our society could use more of. have you been to baton rouge lately? its like a freaking pig farm. it is shameful.
i wouldnt be surprised if this model has quite a strong suit against them for manipulating her image without consent (contract dependent im sure) and wrongful termination (they are telling different stories). im curious to follow the PR effects on klein.
Models are phony. Everybody realizes that models are phony. It has always been so. From time to time they must attempt to make them even phonier. Paris Vogue in black face model row
women run the fashion industry, and they buy the clothes. if skinny models sell clothes, and i suspect they do, so be it. they dont really care what men think is good, they caer what women aspire to be, and women aspire to have waifish 13 year old boy bodies because they find that attractive. we men are doing our best to convince them that we love t&A but they are not listening. bitches never listen.
