I'd thought I'd post his LSU related comments at Media days . .they're in the same Tarzan speak as Saban's . . On LSU's OL and WR "Michael Clayton, I'll not say the best athlete in country, but one of the best. Can do everything with a football. He's dangerous. When have to go to second team quarterback, confidence of entire team, you wait to see what that QB gets done. You lose some focus. LSU has a good football team, I think they're the team to beat in the conference this year. We've got to go down there. They're fond of me down there. They've had some good offensive lines. Have a good coaching staff and do a good job of game-planning. Can't ever tell what's going to happen. They did a good job with (Josh) Reed a few years ago. They found a way to get him open. He has a good football team coming back. We've got to go down there, That will be a big, big game."
I still don't like Tubby His quote that you can't ever tell what's going to happen is always the truth in the SEC West. I would think Jackie Sherill must be pretty pissed at Tubby after last year. Did they say anything about each other at Media day? When Tubby pulled that trickery late in the game on ESPN, I thought that was probably worse than anything he did to us. His stupid little grin that they caught made you want to kick his pretty boy ass. He's definitely aware of what we think of him. Come to think of it, I know what Ole Miss & Bama fans think of him and then there's Houston Nutt & the Hogs. He's not loved much 'round these parts.
Re: I still don't like Tubby I wouldn't have it any other way. 1) It makes the game/spectacle/SEC football that much more fun and 2) he must be doing something right to be hated so fiercely, especially by lsu and their fans...you guys have to be the worse about it though. Don't understand why but, hey, to each his own...
AuNuma1 nailed it. That we need a guy to dislike. It does add to the spectacle and charges the atmosphere. With the evil genius Spurrier gone the SEC has a void that is being filled with Tubby now.
I am hoping the uglyness on both sides can sort of simmer down to just a good SEC rivalry. Sure it will never be like Bama and Auburn. But I do enjoy having a coach who you cannot stand. And for Tiger fans the Auburn game has TONS of emotion simply because of Tubs. Remember Spurrier was that guy, Tubs sort of volunteered himself in the 2001 year to replace him. So lets keep the intensity up but last year in Tubs defense he did act like class as Auburn was taking LSU to the woodshed, he did nOT run up the score. To me that did not go un-noticed. Of Course Saban did that the year before, not running up the score even though Tubs did it to him prior. The TUbs of old would have done the fake down the ball then try to throw one deep. Plus all eyes are on Auburn this year, anything less then an SEC west Title (No not those Co-Titles they brag about - where they go to Atlanta) Tubby will have some answering to do. So it will be interesting to see how the Auburn fans react this season, remember last year until the LSU games their boards were littered with Fire Tubby posts Geaux Tigers
What turned me against Tubby was that smirk on his face every time the camera caught him. Same smug smile as Spurrier, except Spurrier backed it up by winning. Tubby hasn't won crap. When Tubby has some kind of championship under his belt, I'll have to grudgingly accept the smirk. Until then, I'll just enjoy watching him win his little battles but losing every war.
Just wanted to add that I've had many good encounters with Auburn fans and I hope fans of both schools will be able to get along better. We need to do our part this year to treat them well and ease the tensions. I think Tubby may have realized he had something to do with the recent bad relations and is trying to rectify a little. I agree that it's good to have a character like Tubby around now that Spurrier's gone. As for the Mississippi St. game last year, Tubby ran a fake FG in the 4th quarter when they were up by 3+ TD's. Apparently, there's some bad blood between Sherrill and Tubs that I don't know much about. Anyway, one of the Auburn message boards I went to after that incident was calling for his head (about a 70/30 split) and how his actions were making the university look bad. This Auburn team definitely has some talent. Tubs better produce.
I see where you are coming from but it's not accurate. Tubs' first season in 99 with us he went 5-6 and took a lot of frustration out on lsu (41-7). We all enjoyed that as it was probably the only substantial win during that entire season...sorry if we Auburn fans like to remember that game, forgive us. But EVERY year after that, Tubs has had Auburn at the top of the SEC West, tied or out-right. Tubs HAS in fact won, he just hasn't been able to get over the hump and win the dang thing. This is his chance, he has all the tools he needs to do it. It will be an interesting season for us Auburn folks, to say the least.
