Mike Shula got a one-year extension on his contract at Bama, but didn't get a raise. The hoops coach Mark Gottfried got an exentsion and raise and it's the first time in the school's athletic deparment's history that the football coach isn't the highest paid athletics official. Showing Shula all the love for his 4-9 and 6-6 records!:hihi:
TOOL being the key word....Lordy who knows why? My only guess is that the Bama Athletic Admin. had to give Gottfried a raise and extension and so as not to look too bad (like a Kentucky) they gave Shula an extension too. I bet Bama fans never thought they'd ever see the day where the hoops coach was making more than the football coach.
Maybe Mike Shula got an extension because he's a hottie. I've had a crush on him since I was in high school and he was the QB for Bama.
Contract extended for 1 entire calendar year. Bet he flew over to the law office to sign that one. Talk about confidence in your coach. Those in the laundry detergent box hats are indeed a model for the conference. :hihi:
Look here now, calling opposing team's coach "hottie" will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Understood? Keep them little female hormones in check please. Thank you. :hihi:
I dont think the guy is a bad coach... he just isnt a recruiting marvel like Saban was, plus he has had a team on probation.. not an easy situation.
I really don't think that Bama will hold Shula accountable from day one. He inherited too much crap. Shula at least got Bama back into a bowl game last year and has kept the team relatively out of trouble since his arrival. This year will be different. He has a solid defense and will have to show some real improvement. I'm betting that Bama will beat Tennessee in Tuscaloosa.
Bama's defense is way over-rated..... Bama's defense last year was far better on paper than in reality. Bama's defense padded their stats big-time in the 1st half of last season by turning in "great" defensive efforts against the likes of (a) Utah State; (b) Western Carolina (a bad D1AA school); and (c) Kentucky. When Bama hit the 2nd half of their schedule the Bama defense was revealed to be a good defense but nowhere near one of the top defenses in the nation. LSU and South Carolina both ran the ball for around 200 yards on Bama's defense and beat Bama by over two TD's. Auburn passed Bama silly in their win over Bama and Minnesota ran at will against the Bama defense in their bowl game with around 300 rushing yards. Bama's defensive stats were sort of like "Smoke & Mirrors" and the Bama efense had trouble against big strong OL's. I look for this year to be more of the same for Bama's defense and the Bama offense is going to have one of the more inexperienced and youngest offensive lines in the country. It all adds up to what could be a tough year for the Tide especially if the often injured Brodie Croyle gets hurt again. Regarding Shula, he better take any extension and money that he can get because he's going to need all the job security he can muster.
