1.GEORGIA (10-2, 6-2 SEC) ? Judging by the fear LSU fans had of playing Georgia in the SEC championship game, Georgia is the new No. 1 team in the SEC. If this was basketball, Georgia would be seen as the SEC East champion just like Tennessee. Georgia will receive a banner for sharing the East. This is the SEC team playing the best football now and for the last six weeks. So what if it lost the tiebreaker because it lost at Tennessee nearly two months ago. Last Week: 2nd. 2.LSU (10-2, 6-2) ? LSU lost at home to an average, four-loss team with a one-dimensional offense. Arkansas' Darren McFadden may be the best player in America, but the offense is still one dimensional and was handled by other teams much better than by LSU. Do not believe the myth that Arkansas' backfield was healthy for the first time all season. Not true. LSU's defense just made it look that way. ESPN's Brad Edwards sees LSU getting into the BCS national championship game if the right things happen instead of Georgia, Kansas and Virgnia Tech. That should not happen because it is doubtful if LSU could beat any of those three teams this Saturday with that defense Last Week: 1st. 3.AUBURN (8-4, 5-3) - Auburn just picked up an Alabama six pack it can drink for a whole year. Meanwhile, I wonder how coach Tub felt after smoking six cigars? And lookee here, Forrest Gump just transferred to Auburn. You're No. 2 in Alabama Alabama, and in case you didn't notice it's been that way for some time. Last Week: 3rd. 4.TENNESSEE (9-3, 6-2) - Vols coach Phillip Fulmer should be up for some coach of the year awards. And people wondered why I ranked him above LSU coach Les Miles last August. Last Week: 4th. 5.FLORIDA (9-3, 5-3) - Quarterback Tim Tebow basically beat Florida State with one broken hand tied behind his back. Last Week: 5th. 6.ARKANSAS (8-4, 4-4) ? The Hogs beat the No. 1 team last week, but I still think they are an average team and they don't have a coach, so they stay sixth. Funny, I caught a lot of criticism from fans and fans in the media for putting former coach Houston Nutt ahead of Miles in my rankings last August. Arkansas may learn that Nutt had Arkansas about as good as it can be and it let him go. Last Week: 6th. 7.MISSISSIPPI STATE (7-5, 4-4) ? Should State have lost the Ole Miss battle on purpose last week to win the war? Because life just got tougher for State with Ole Miss firing coach Ed Orgeron and hiring Nutt, who is Ole Miss' best hire since Tommy Tuberville. Last Week: 7th. 8.KENTUCKY (7-5, 3-5) ? The Wildcats lost four of their last five, but they still are enjoying their first back-to-back seasons of seven wins - not counting probation - since the 1950s. Last Week: 8th. 9. ALABAMA (6-6, 4-4) - The Tide recovered from the ULM disaster to play a good game in losing at Auburn. The Tide still has some star power and could get a better bowl than other 6-6 and 7-5 SEC teams. You may see them in the Liberty Bowl or Music City Bowl. But Auburn's better. Last Week: 12th. 10. SOUTH CAROLINA (6-6, 3-5) - Would LSU want to hire a 62-year-old coach who has lost five in a row? Maybe. He's still Steve Spurrier. Last Week: 10th. 11. VANDERBILT (5-7, 2-6) - Close again but no bowl. Last Week: 9th. 12. OLE MISS (3-9, 0-8) - Fired coach Ed Orgeron was 3-21 in the SEC in three seasons for the worst mark over that span. So why do the people who fired David Cutcliffe and hired Orgeron - chancellor Robert Khayat and athletic director Pete Boone - get to keep their jobs and hire the next coach? They should be gone, too. Last Week: 11th. Link To Original Article
