BATON ROUGE ? LSU's latest depth chart released Monday had a few interesting items on it. Many thought Ryan Perrilloux had been second team at quarterback for some time over the last two weeks, but LSU coach Les Miles refused to say who was No. 2. Then there it was on Monday. Perrilloux is right under No. 1 quarterback Matt Flynn. Another development is the fact that Harvard sophomore transfer Andrew Hatch is No. 3. Signee Jarrett Lee is either tied with Hatch or at No. 4. "I think Perrilloux and Hatch and Lee are kind of close enough that it would be an or situation," Miles said. Asked if Perrilloux would get playing time against Mississippi State Thursday night in Starkville, Miss., Miles said, "I'd hate to say, but I wouldn't be opposed to getting him in the game." Miles didn't mean he'd hate to play Perrilloux. He was saying he doesn't like showing his hand. Miles has said a few times that Perrilloux, who was suspended over the summer after receiving a citation for using fake identification, has had a good camp. Other depth chart developments have sophomore R.J. Jackson, a former LSU tailback and a tailback signee in 2005 out of Westside High in Houston, as the No. 2 split end, or X, behind sophomore Brandon LaFell. Jackson was redshirted in 2005 and has had some injury problems, but he is considered an excellent all-around athlete. Sophomore Jared Mitchell, who had a shoulder problem early in camp, is the No. 2 flanker, or Z, behind senior Early Doucet. Sophomore Trindon Holliday was listed behind Doucet going into camp. The speedster is still expected to play often at wide or slot receiver as well as tailback and returner. Sophomore Chris Mitchell, true freshman Terrance Toliver and junior college transfer Demetrius Byrd are also expected to play as LSU will often use three and four wide receiver sets. Sophomore Richard Dickson is the No. 1 tight end. Senior Keith Zinger was at No. 1 going into August. Dickson started nine games last season after Zinger went down with a stomach ailment. Zinger is back and healthy again, and an "or" is in front of his name on the depth chart, meaning he is a co-starter. In another shift, junior Marlon Favorite is listed as the starting right defensive tackle ahead of junior Charles Alexander. Alexander was No. 1 going into August. There is an "or" for co-starter, though. One of the best competitions of August camp was at right defensive end, where sophomore Rahim Alem, formerly Al Jones, edged senior Kirston Pittman and junior Tremaine Johnson for No. 1. Johnson is now No. 2 at left end behind Tyson Jackson. "I think that you'll see that they (Alem and Pittman) are interchangeable," Miles said. "Rahim has had a great camp. Kirston Pittman is another guy who's had a really good camp." There are now three true freshmen in the two-deep offensive line. In addition to previously reported Joseph Barksdale at right tackle behind senior Carnell Stewart and Jarvis Jones at left tackle behind sophomore Ciron Black, Josh Dworaczyk is at No. 2 right guard behind sophomore Lyle Hitt.
