1. BATON ROUGE - LSU quarterback Matt Flynn will be held out of practice today as a precaution with what is believed to be a minor ankle injury suffered in the No. 2 Tigers' 48-7 win over No. 9 Virginia Tech Saturday night.
He is expected to play in Saturday's 7 p.m. home game against Middle Tennessee, but LSU coach Les Miles did not sound completely definite about that.
"We're looking at him, but I think he can play," Miles said. "We'll see how it goes. We'll take some time and let him relax and bring him back on Tuesday and see how it goes."
It was unclear to Miles on what play Flynn hurt his ankle.
"Honestly, I don't even know. I watched the film again, and I don't know," Miles said. "I would think that he'd be fine for this Saturday, but that's just me talking. Normally, Monday's a light day anyway. We run. I'll give him that day off and we'll talk about it Tuesday."
Flynn completed 17 of 27 passes for 217 yards. He rotated with backup Ryan Perrilloux, but that was scripted. It was not all because of Flynn's ankle injury. Miles said last week he planned to play Perrilloux in every game regardless of the score. Perrilloux first entered the game in the first quarter with LSU leading only 7-0.
Perrilloux finished 5-of-5 passing for 84 yards and two touchdowns.
"I can tell you he (Flynn) could've finished the game if it was a game we needed him to play in," Miles said.
Miles said there are no serious injuries and everyone will be ready to play Saturday, though some could be held out of practices early this week.
"There are some guys who are nicked who will be more day to day," he said.
RANKED HISTORY: LSU's 41-point victory over No. 9 Virginia Tech was the most lopsided win by LSU over a top 10 team in school history. It was also LSU's most lopsided win over a ranked team since the 61-17 victory (44-point margin) over No. 16 Ole Miss and Archie Manning, who played with his arm in a cast, on Dec. 5, 1970.
WINNING STREAKS: With Boise State, Brigham Young and Texas Christian all losing Saturday, LSU now has the nation's second longest winning streak in the nation at nine games. Wisconsin leads the nation with 10. The Tigers last lost on Oct. 7, 2006, at Florida, 23-10.
LSU, which hosts Middle Tennessee at 7 p.m. Saturday, has won 14 straight at home now since the loss to Tennessee in 2005. The Tigers are 18-0 at home against nonconference teams with the last loss coming on Sept. 23, 2000 to UAB by a 13-10 score.
