In my opinion, Vincent and Broussard are our two best backs. Carey is up there, but Addai is not on their level. What about trying Brazell at corner or Randall at safety? Not to start, just trying them out with spot duty
When Addai was healthy, he beat these guys out. Don't count him out yet, Nick won't make any changes until spring. Being deep at RB is important because they take a physical beating.
I also wonder which back is protecting the QB on the passing plays. I haven't watched closely enough to know, but I am sure that the coaches know. That is who should play the most. Going into this game, I was convinced that Vincent was the best of the freshman and that Broussard had a little ways to go. This game just re-enforced that opinion. I still think that if Addai returns to last season's form, he is a better power back than Broussard. I think that it is a tough call as far as Carey vs Vincent. Last week I had said Carey, but after yesterday, I have to say that Vincent is looking way to sharp to bench. Tough call. I hope that Carey comes back in limited form as the starter against LA Tech and then Saban has to make the tough choice against Bummer.
I believe Carey started out as a WR at LSU, but I don't think either of them will be moving. I'm really happy to see Vincent come into his own. During scrimmages I didn't really see what I expected from him but this is what I thought he would be.
With regards to Carey and Addai, I'd like to see them run with David Jones as the fullback. Keep in mind we just started using David Jones as the fullback (H-back) against USC, and the rushing results have been significantly improved. Addai and Carey need a chance to run with Jones blocking. Nothing against the previous fullback starter; however, Jones is knocking the s#@t out of the defenders.
I am loving the play of these freshman but in my opinion, Carey is the best back on the field. What a good problem to have with all these talented rb's.... Anyway, I would like to see Shyrone start against LT, I think he's much more effective there than he would be at WR.
WR is as loaded as RB (with Amp Hill still waiting in the wings). Shyrone Carey can still do some great things for LSU at RB. As Red said, Addai is no slouch either. Since the Arizona game I have liked the way Justin Vincent has played, and the last two games have shown me that he is a legitimate SEC back.
I would like to see a healthy Addai run behind this offensive line we've seen the last two weeks before making any decision. I don't think our new found running game is all due to the new RBs ... the little meeting Saban had with the Oline seem to help them focus on running the ball. I like Carey and think he can contribute as a RB, but I think he may have lost his job as a punt returner. Brazell's football career may be over at the end of the season ... his future is track. Randall is our backup QB ... and may be our starter next year if Mauck doesn't return.
What a great problem to have. With the exception of B. Edwards, everyone else has shown they can handle the workload effectively. They each have differing styles which is a nice luxury. I like Addai and think he is a great back but that doesn't necessarily mean he should still be the starter when he gets healthy. We're seeing first hand how important depth at RB can be. Since we have everyone coming back next year, I think we should try to redshirt one of the freshmen (Edwards?). Since we'll be stacked at WR (if Clayton returns and/or we get Early or Xavier), I don't think we'd switch anyone. Vincent would be the guy though. Carey is too short for WR but I think his height is an advantage for RB. Addai & Alley are natural RBs. Not sure about Barrington.
Does anyone else remember the debacle of starting Carey at WR against VA Tech? I remember him dropping at least four easy passes.
