Top recruiting classes... Very young team... 2 qb's with All-American potential... New facilities... Stadium upgrades... Should any top coach in the country be drooling over the chance to coach at LSU? People keeps saying "if saban leaves, we better start looking quick"... i think coaches are probably already sending their resumes to SB.. i know i would be.
I'd have to say that if we don't come out of this (if Saban leaves) smelling like a rose with a great coach then the administration has let us down. With what LSU brings to the table in terms of, as said above, talent, facilities and the general upwards rise of the program, a top tier coach shouldn't be out of our reach, no matter who he is or what school he's at.
The fact that Butch Davis mentioned the LSU job as one he'd like BEFORE the Saban/Dolphins story broke showed how much the job has become desirable.
ok i have been trying to figure that out since it was said. no one will give me a logical explanation. when the hell does a coach fired from his nfl and gm job publically state he is interested in a college job not even vacant? and why? the fact they have the same agent has to be part of the answer, sexton, knowing NS is interested in coaching at the next level.
Maybe, with the exception of earlier this year, the LSU football program is probably as marketable as any job in the country. sa far as butch davis, I read as comment in the TP that he said he may take off a year for stress and health reasons. I think LSU can do better than butch davis.
I also do not think that Tommy Tubby or Mike Riley should be the top two candidates. I just cannot believe that these two guys are even on the short list. Can you freakin' imagine how much TS would suck with Tubby on the sidelines? What's wrong with Norm Chow or Kirk Ferentz?
I've been wondering the same thing. On top of that, Bertman came out and responded to Davis's statement. I'm not really a conspiracy theorist, but this seems to be one hell of a coincidence.
Sure, there are guys like Nick Saban who have, as their ultimate professional goal, coaching in the NFL. There are also very good coaches who simply don't want to deal with the NFL and would rather excel on the college level. Somewhere out there is a fairly-young, talented coach who has had success at every other school he's led and is looking to make the jump into a big time college program...and stay there. In other words, there's another Mack Brown out there to be had...preferrably one who can coach well in big games, of course.
