The 2006 version of the LSU Tigers on display Sat. night in TS reminded me a lot of the 2001 version led by Rohan Davey and Josh Reed. Watching the game on CSTV on Sunday night confirmed that. In 2001, LSU could not run the ball worth a ****, but it took us a few games to figure that out. Looks like Jimbo knows what will work and we'll be seeing a lot of deep balls throwm by JR this year. If teams decide to go to a 2 deep zone, the run will soften up. The defense is stellar. Looking at the LSU team this year on the TV replay, I was impressed with how physically imposing our QB, WRs, LBs and DBs are. They all look like thoroughbreds. I think this year, Jimbo trusts Jamarcus a lot more and JR will be unleashed. The receivers are catching everything. If a guy the size of JR is confident and making good decisions with the ball, LSU will be very, very good. I've been watching LSU for a very long time and I think this year LSU shows every indication of a big-time football team capable of going undefeated. It has been a while since LSU game out of the gate and totally dominated in game 1. LSU has proven that it improves game 1 to game 2. I expect a 20 to 30 point win this weekend, and beleive it or not - a convincing win over Auburn the week after. I am really pretty fired up about this season. Being on national TV this week will get the media buzz going about LSU and JR.
i really hope i'm wrong on this and you're right on it, but there aint no way we will have a big win (in point margin) over auburn. i still say we win by dun dun dun... a field goal. :geauxtige
But in that 2001 team that "couldn't run a lick" people forget that Toefield ran for more touchdowns than any other Tiger running back in history. The running game was not that bad, it was just overshadowed by the great passing game.
...and SEC history. He tied Shawn Alexander that year with 19 TDs. We averaged 153 yards rushing per game, which isnt horrible, though nothing special for sure. Combine that with 298 yards passing, and you have a pretty balanced offense. I too hope we are a far cry from that 2001 defense, though. We gave up nearly 280 yards per game through the air.
I like your confidence, and I think it is well placed. I hope you are right on all your assessments, cause I'll be a real happy camper come Jan. 1. It might play out the way you say. A lot has to fall in place, but it just may. I agree JR looks better, the receivers look real good. We still have to see both lines step it up, and against top tier competition. If we can play very well and dominate Az., then I'll feel better about Auburn. They really are the first big test. To all fall together, the coaches will have to manage the teams emotions. We can get up too high, beat Auburn, think we're home free, and lose to Fl. or Bama. I'll take it one game at a time, let's beat Az. and then focus on Auburn. (But I sure hope you're RIGHT in every respect). :geauxtige
When I posted "The defense is stellar" I am pretty sure I meant that we "have a defense." The things that were wrong in game 1 are all correctible. The line working together, kick returns, punt returners catching the ball.
Auburn will not be challenged in the regular season. This Auburn team is all fire and will be high stepping all the way to another SEC crown.
I stared at this post for about 30 seconds before being able to decide whether or not to put a :dis: or a  I settled for
Good God man, you put a beat down on a third rate pac10 team, and now you are national champs. Congratulations:dis: :dis: :dis:
