For those of you that watch the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, there was a hilarious piece re: Senator Coburn last night, where he was filmed working on a crossword puzzle during John Roberts hearing.

Got bored and did some research, this is one wacky, fun guy.

Was formerly a doctor who performed abortions. Now opposes them. He originally wanted the Death Penalty for doctors that perform abortions (like him). . . later clarified that he did not support the death penalty for doctors (like himself), who have performed abortions since it was legal at the time.

Here is some great quotes from the man himself:

If I wanted to buy a bazooka to use in a very restricted way, to do something, I ought to be able to do that.'' -- Then-Rep. Tom Coburn. Tulsa World, May 2 1999

And Rep. Tom Coburn, a physician from Oklahoma, argues that the water pollutant cryptosporidium, which caused 104 deaths and poisoned 400,000 people in Wisconsin in 1993, can "be very helpful because it helps us identify those people who, in fact, are immuno-compromised." Yes, one observer noted, and bullets can help identify hemophiliacs. Op-Ed, Rep. George MillerD-CA Los Angeles Times, March 1 1996

Coburn Said He Felt Underpaid Making $133,000 a Year in Congress. Since he is so critical of the salaries of AIDS executives, I asked Coburn if he felt underpaid making $133,000 a year in Congress. "Yes," he answered with surprising candor. "Nobody in my district would agree with that. But you have to be able to earn more money to attract good people."

The best congressman ever was James Traficant. His one minute speeches were solid gold. Beam me up Mr. Speaker.
