Rome Visited During Christmas Papal Opening Expected Soon Associated Press Baton Rouge, La. 12/29/03 As Pope John Paul's health falters in Rome, speculation continues as to who his replacement might be. The Pope's, ability to lead The Catholics has been called into question the last few years and word has it it won't be long before the keys to The Vatican will be turned over. Telephone calls to John Paul's boss were not returned by his office as of Sunday night. One name mentioned quite often to fill the position is that of Nick Saban, current head coach the LSU Fightin' Tigahs. One member of the Vatican Board of Directors, who asked to remain nameless, seemed to support the idea of Saban stepping in. "Yes, Mr. Saban's name has been brought to our attention. We are interested in interviewing Nick as soon as possible in regard to employment here in Rome. He also seems to have great support from our owner. It was only four years ago that "HE" "sent Nick to LSU".We feel that Coach Saban can do the same things for us as he has done for the Tigahs. LSU's AD, Skip Bertman, would only say "The Vatican has alot deeper pockets than we do here at LSU".
They are hoping he is leaving, because they know that if he stays, LSU will probably be the closest thing SEC football will ever see to the Bill Russell-Bob Cousy Boston Celtics or the John Wooden UCLA BB teams of thirty to forty years ago. Saban will have the pick of the best FB players in Louisiana plus a few every year from Mississippi and Texas. It could get scarey.
This is one Tider who hopes he hangs around for a long time!!! It's a lot more fun when you get to beat the best!! I really mean that, I'd much rather play a badass LSU team than one from the '90's. Pay him what he wants and keep him around
